Description

1. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman, Dr. A. Atputharajah. Dr. Atputharajah welcomed the gathering and presented a summary of the activities conducted from April 2012 to date. Then, the Secretary, Mr. Upul Dissanayake read the minutes of the previous Annual General Meeting which was held on 21st April 2012. Prof. M. A. R. M. Fernando proposed that the minutes were in order. It was seconded by Mr. T. Ratnayake and the minutes were unanimously confirmed. Next, the Treasurer Mr. T. Ratnayake presented the treasurer report. Two minor typo errors were pointed out by Prof. K. M. Liyanage and they werevcorrected by the Treasurer. Prof. J.B. Ekanayake mentioned that IEEE PES SL chapter can request an annual rebate of US$ 200 from the IEEE SL Section. 2. As the former committee resigned from the posts, Prof. K. M. Liyanage was proposed as the Chair pro tem by Prof. M. A. R. M. Fernando. It was seconded by Prof. J.B. Ekanayake. Nominations for the office bearers for the year 2014/2015 were called by Prof. K. M. Liyanage. Then, the office bearers were elected unanimously. 3. Chairman’s Address: The newly elected Chairman, Prof. J.B. Ekanayake addressed the gathering. He highlighted the need of attracting more members to PES SL Chapter. He mentioned that the University of Moratuwa has already formed a PES student chapter and it is good to form PES student chapters in other universities as well. He further said that the IEEE PES SL Chapter together with the IEEE SL section will continue organizing distinguished lectures under the DLP Program. It was decided to hold the first EXCOM of PES SL Chapter on the same day after the AGM. 4. Vote of Thanks and the End of the AGM: Since there were no other issues to be discussed, the newly elected secretary, Dr. S. K. Abeygunawardane gave the vote of thanks. The meeting was adjourned at 12 noon.
