[Legacy Report] Women in Engineering: Is it Really Challenging?

July 10, 2014 · 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM @ Peradeniya

Description

Traditionally, women in the world have been represented at lower proportions than men in both science and engineering in University and careers. Are engineering working cultures more cheerful to men than women engineers? There are very limited women who are in this field as it is very competitive. Still men dominate this world more. Are female strong enough to get challenged: working and family commitments; child bearing and house working. Are female scientists or engineers really strong enough, confident enough to handle all these? Being female among scientists or engineers is very challenging in addition to the societal bias against being women. Can working mother, particularly one who has skills to be able to balance her work and home, enjoy the career as engineer or scientist?
