Description

The meeting was chaired by the Chairman, Prof. J. B. Ekanayake. The Chair welcomed the gathering and presented the annual report. Then, the Secretary, Dr. S. K. Abeygunawardane read the minutes of the previous Annual General Meeting which was held on 09 th March 2014. Dr. P. J. Binduhewa proposed that the minutes were in order. It was seconded by Dr. A. Atputharajah and the minutes of the AGM were unanimously confirmed. Next, the Secretary, Dr. S. K. Abeygunawardane read the minutes of the Special General Meeting which was held on 29 th July 2014. Dr. U. Hemapala proposed that the minutes were in order. It was seconded by Dr. L. N. Widanagama Arachchige and the minutes of the SGM were unanimously confirmed. As per the minutes of the SGM, the following resolutions were passed at the AGM. The term of the Executive Committee is two years. At the end of each year, the EXCOM should present the treasurer report and the activity report to members. The post of “Vice Chair” is changed to “Chair Elect”. Instead of Mr. M. R. Ranathunga who did not attend any of the EXCOM meetings held in the previous year, Prof. K. M. Liyanage was appointed as a Committee Member. This was proposed by Prof. J. B. Ekanayake and seconded by Dr. A. Atputharajah. After that, the Treasurer Dr. P. J. Binduhewa presented the treasurer report. Dr. U. Hemapala proposed that the treasurer report was in order. It was seconded by Dr. L. N. Widanagama Arachchige. The Chair mentioned that Dr. A. Atputharajah was selected for the Outstanding Engineer Award. After presenting the service done by Dr. A. Atputharajah for the Engineering education and Engineering profession, the Chair asked the Secretary to present the certificate of the Outstanding Engineer Award to Dr. A. Atputharajah. The plaque will be presented to him later, when it is received. It was decided to appoint an independent judicator and prepare a guideline for selecting a person for the Outstanding Engineer Award, when there are no nominations. Dr. A. Atputharajah was appointed as the independent judicator and he agreed to prepare the guideline by the end of April 2015. Dr. L. N. Widanagama Arachchige requested the Chair to mention how PES SL Chapter supports its Student Chapters. The Chair said that PES SL Chapter can support each student chapter by giving $100 per year. He further said that PES student Chapters can organize events together with PES SL Chapter. Since there were no other issues to be discussed, the secretary, Dr. S. K. Abeygunawardane gave the vote of thanks. The meeting was adjourned at 4.45 pm.
