[Legacy Report] IEEE R10 SYWC'15 - Young Professionals Track

The Young Professionals track of the R10 SYW congress 2015 became a great opportunity and a valuable platform for the R10 young professionals to meet like-minded people and share the diversified experiences over the region. It also helped volunteers to expand their professional network while shaping up their career with informative and strategic life changing inputs delivered during the session. The track started with the rejuvenating session by R10 Young Professionals coordinator, Ranjit R Nair and he started the session highlighting the background about the transition of GOLD to “Young Professionals”. Further he spoke about the new initiatives program, Young Professionals Vibrancy Project, Entrepreneurship Development Program and New Awards Program which was an eye opener for the audience. Next session was from Mr. Harish Mysore about the membership benefits and engagement in R10. He mainly talked about the insurance program which is something novel for the region 10 members but something quite familiar to regions 1-7. Further he highlighted various categories and benefits of the insurance program where audience enthusiastically contributed to the session followed by a discussion. It gave the audience a deep insight to the insurance program and future outlook of it. Other than the insurance program, he spoke about discounts and other member benefits such as lap top discounts etc. which audience found very interesting. The next session was about the entrepreneurship for young professionals by a prominent speaker Mr. Vineeth Vijayaraghavan. Starting from audience expectations and definitions, he was able share his experience and motivations and fund raising facts which made a significant impact on young audience towards start ups. The last session before the lunch was “Feet on the Ground”, IEEE’s humanitarian efforts by Eng. Amarnath Raja. He shared his experience on humanitarian activities carried out throughout the region and how engineers can take part in those special socially sensitive situations. He further added how the IEEE SIGHT was initiated and objectives behind it where he ended up with the tag line for “IEEE SIGHT – Engineers with a heart” and then session broke for lunch. After the lunch, R10 Young Professionals committee headed by Ranjith R Nair conducted a brainstorming session to create a pool of ideas for young professional volunteers to come up with common issues faced and best practises implemented in their own affinity groups. He divided the participants in to five groups and conducted this attractive session by giving each group a topic which needs to build the content and present at the end. The final session of the track was about the MGA Young Professionals initiatives by Arjun R. Pillay. During the latter part of his presentation, he was joined by the IEEE MGA Young Professionals chair - Mario Milicevic on skype. It was an interesting session by both of them which audience found informative. Total participation of the track was around 60 including young professionals and prospective student members and it as successfully ended up giving unforgettable experience for the participants.
