The IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) affinity group Sri Lanka, was approved on 1st of May 2015. The first phase of the inauguration took place on 10th July 2015 during the R10 SYW congress 2015. The main purpose of the activity was to make the participation aware of the formation of WIE Sri Lanka Section, promote WIE membership, and make the participants aware of its advantages. As the first activity of WIE Sri Lanka, a panel discussion was organised at the congress, and the first female engineer of Sri Lanaka, Dr. Sivasekaram graced the event as the guest of honours. Further, Prof. Yoot Khuan and Mrs. Hissell also shared their experience with the participants as panel members. The panel was moderated by Dr. Maheshi Dissanayke, the interim chair of WIE Sri Lanka Section. The panel discussion was well received by the participants. Later on the day, at the gala dinner of the congress, the WIE Sri Lanka, organised personalised cupcakes as WIE desert to commemorate the formation of IEEE WIE Sri Lanka.
