General Proceedings The inauguration ceremony of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) University of Peradeniya student Branch Chapter was held on the 8th of June 2016, at the Faculty of Engineering at University of Peradeniya. The event was a tremendous success with more than 100 attendees including students and lecturers alike. The event featured a Project initiation program followed by the first ever Annual General Meeting of the IEEE MTT-S UoP student Branch chapter. The gathering was blessed and addressed by the acting Head of the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering Prof Manjula Fernando and the former Chair of IEEE Sri Lanka Section, Dr Ruwan Ranaweera and the event was conducted by Mr Maqsood Ahamed. The event was held in joint collaboration with the IEEE MTT-S Sri Lanka Section and the IEEE Student Branch at the University of Peradeniya. Project initiation One of the first activities of the IEEE MTT-S UoP student Branch Chapter was the initiation of several projects, which were open to students and lecturers of all calibre and expertise, in an attempt to promote and establish the study of RF & Microwave Engineering. The projects introduced were primarily based upon RF & Microwave Techniques but were also diverse and generic in nature, so as to attract more participants. This program featured a brief introduction and orientation to each of the projects introduced, where the lecturers in-charge of the projects conveyed their plans for each project. Each project encouraged teamwork and a contribution to a better world. The projects initiated included, 1. Radio Astronomy : Dr Aruna Gunawardena 2. Amateur Radio : Dr Aruna Gunawardena 3. Radar & Remote Sensing : Dr Aruna Gunawardena 4. RFID Tracking : Dr Melaka Senadeera 5. Energy Harvesting : Dr Melaka Senadeera 6. Walkie Talkie Project : Dr Ravi Wijesiriwardana AGM The final event of the day was the AGM of the IEEE MTT-S UoP Student Branch Chapter. This program was addressed by the Advisor of the IEEE MTT-S UoP Student Branch Chapter, Dr Aruna Gunawardena, who shared some of his wisdom, thoughts and experience in the field of Microwave Engineering and its significance. This was followed by the appointment of the office-bearers for the IEEE MTT-S UoP Student Branch Chapter. The elected Chair of the chapter, Mr. Ishan Chandrasiri, took over the meeting and expressed his enthusiasm and plans for the chapter for the year.
