The workshop on ‘Heterodyne receivers and amateur radio systems design’ organized by MTT-S, University of Peradeniya Student Branch was held on 20/10/2016 in the seminar room of Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The workshop was conducted by the advisor of the society, Dr. Aruna Gunawardena. The students engaged in MTT-S Projects as Radar systems, Radio Astronomy and Amateur Radios participated in the workshop and gained a good understanding of the radio receiver design. Moreover, they got to witness the usage of design tool ‘RF-workbench’, in the aspects of simulation and design of the RF circuits with component blocks. Also guidance was provided for the Radio Astronomy group on the design of a helical Antenna for their radio astronomy receiver. Overall the workshop was completed successfully and the students were determined to design their own radio receivers at the end.
