[Legacy Report] 4th EXCOM Meeting-IEEE PES SL Chapter -2017

The meeting was chaired by the Chairman, Dr. P. J. Binduhewa. The Chair welcomed everyone to the fourth EXCOM meeting. Then, the following matters were discussed. The Chair informed about the following activities held in 2017: Conducting three guest lectures: Guest Lecture by Dr. Duleepa J. Thirimawithana on “Grid Integration Technologies for Distributed Storage Systems,” held at University of Peradeniya on 10 th July 2017. Guest Lecture by Dr. Krish Narendra on “Application of Synchrophasors for Power System Protection and Analysis,” held at University of Moratuwa on 6 th February 2017. Guest Lecture by Mr. Shanika Matharage on “Methanol and Ethanol as Paper Ageing Indicators for Transformers,” held at University of Moratuwa on 22 nd February 2017. Sponsoring the event “Semester 3 Design Project Competition 2017” held in University of Moratuwa on 27 July 2017. Organizing a seminar on “Smart Meters – Global and Sri Lankan Perspective,” conducted by Dr. Sudheera Navaratne and Team of R&D Division of Ceylon Electricity Board led by Eng. K. G. R. F. Comester. Deputy General Manager (R&D). Seminar was held at the Auditorium of CEB (R&D) Branch, 2nd Floor, Block No.05, BMICH, Colombo 07 on 31 st October 2017. Providing the technical sponsorship for the International Conference MERCon 2017 held at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Dr. Lidula Widanagama Arachchige informed the receipt of one nomination for the IEEE PES Outstanding Engineer Award. The Chair read the received nomination of Dr. Priyantha D.C. Wijayatunga for the award and the committee anonymously agreed to offer the award to Dr. Priyantha D.C. Wijayatunga. Prof. Janaka Ekanayake reminded that final selection must be submitted to IEEE PES before 31 st December. The Chair proposed to have the AGM at the end of January 2018 at the University of Peradeniya and Prof. Janaka Ekanayake suggested organizing the get-together along with the AGM. It was further suggested to have the get-together as a train-trip to Badulla/ Bandarawela. Dr. Udayanga Hemapala explained the updates and maintenance carried in the PES website and he indicated the importance of having a web-development assistant for the regular web-updating. The Chair-elect, Dr. Asanka Rodrigo shared his experience gathered during the R10 Chapter Chair meeting, which was held in Bangalore, India. He informed that he has already shared the documentation with the ExCom members. Since there were no other issues to be discussed, the meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
