Binduhewa welcomed the gathering and invited the secretory to present the minutes of 2017 Annual General Meeting. The Secretary, Dr. L. N. Widanagama Arachchige read the minutes of the previous AGM, which was held on 26 th January 2017. Dr. W.D.A.S. Rodrigo proposed the minutes were in order and Dr. P. J. Binduhewa seconded that the minutes were in order. The minutes were unanimously confirmed. As the next agenda item, Dr. P. J. Binduhewa presented a summary of the activities conducted from January 2017 to date. Four invited talks, a seminar, a design project competition, workshop on OpenDSS, and participation to Chapter Chair meeting and holding four ExCom meetings were reported. Next, the Treasurer Dr. S. Kumara presented the treasurer report and Dr. W.D.A.S. Rodrigo proposed that the treasurer report was in order with a minor correction: to present the budget only up to 31 st December 2017 as reported to IEEE. It was seconded by Dr. P. J. Binduhewa and the treasurer report was unanimously confirmed. The Chair mentioned that Dr. P.D.C. Wijayatunga was selected for the “Outstanding Engineer Award, 2017”. After presenting the service done by Dr. P.D.C. Wijayatunga for the Engineering education, research and Engineering profession, the independent judicator, Prof. M. A. R. M. Fernando presented the Certificate to Dr. P.D.C. Wijayatunga. The Chair pled apologies for the delayed arrival of the plaque to be presented and it will be presented to Dr. P.D.C. Wijayatunga upon its arrival. Once again, Prof. M. A. R. M. Fernando was appointed as the independent judicator for selecting a person for the “Outstanding Engineer Award, 2018”. After a lengthy discussion, it was agreed that according to the resolutions passed at the 2015 AGM, the current Executive Committee can proceed for the year 2018 as the agreed term of Executive Committee of PES Sri Lanka is two years. P. J. Binduhewa agreed therefore, to proceed as the Chairperson for the year 2018. Then, Dr. P. J. Binduhewa invited the same executive committee to continue as the office bearers for the year 2018. As the previous Treasure and three Committee members stepped down, new members were elected for the remaining period i.e. one year term. The following office bearers were elected unanimously. Pethiyagode proposed to have a Vice-Chair position to avoid the conflicts that would arise with the resignation of the Chairperson before the elected period and the committee appointed Dr. K.T.M.U. Hemapala as the Vice-Chair. It was also discussed to inform the agreement on the two year term of office bearers of IEEE PES Sri Lanka Chapter to the IEEE Sri Lanka Section. Chairman’s Address: The continuing Chairman, Dr. P. J. Binduhewa addressed the gathering. He indicated the recognition received by the IEEE PES Sri Lanka as a high performance Chapter and the requirement of continuing the activities with same potential. Vote of Thanks and the End of the AGM: Since there were no other issues to be discussed, the Secretory, Dr. L. N. Widanagama Arachchige gave the vote of thanks and adjourned the meeting at 12:30 pm.
