The 7 th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka (YP SL) Section began after lighting the traditional oil lamp by presented dignitaries. The Chairman Mr. Viraj Hewathanthri, the Secretary Mr. Peshan Sampath , the Treasurer Mr. Praneeth Peiris and Vice Chairman Mr. Samith Chathuranga were invited to the head table by the Master of Ceremonies of the event, Ms. Chinthani Kumaradasa and the session was handover to the chairman. Mr. Hewathanthri formally welcomed all the participants and presented the activity report for the period 2017/18. During his report, he gave an overview of activities of the previous year. Further, he highlighted the achievements by far of reaching general public, initiating intermediate platform between industry and universities, membership development ito uplift publicity and also, the commitments of each IEEE volunteer to make those events a success. Further, the requirement in penetrating more to the development of career portal was highlighted during his report. Mr. Peshan Sampath presented the minutes of IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka Annual General Meeting 2017. No matters were raised for the presented minutes of the AGM. Mr. Pamitha Kaluarattchi proposed the minutes are in order and Ms. Dilini Weerasinghe seconded it. The financial report was presented by the treasurer Mr. Praneeth Peiris. Mr. Pasan Pethiyagoda raised that the net worth of the budget was correct according to accounting terms but since there’s no other assets and total liabilities, including that to the details of the net worth, the current budget will be more transparent. With that, no other matters were raised for the presented report and Mr. Pasan Pethiyagode proposed that the budget is free from errors and Mr. Kavinga Upul Ekanayake seconded it. As per the amendment to the constitution following officers were proposed for the year 2018 by considering the responses received for the open call for nominations. Immediate past chairman Mr. Viraj Hewathanthri invited the Chairman Mr. Nadarajah Dheynoshan, the Secretary Ms. Saumya Kumarihamy , the Treasurer Mr. Sanishya Ratnayake, Vice Chairman Mr. Peshan Sampath and Chairman - Elect Mr. Chandana Maduranga to the head table and handover the proceedings to the newly appointed chairman. The newly appointed Chairman, Mr. Nadarajah Dheynoshan explained his vision for the coming year which highlighted to be the bridge that links the gap between the student community and the professional community to improve the regular interactions among the same. And to grow more local benefits to the members in addition to the benefits offered by IEEE which will help the sustainable growth of the organization in terms of membership retention and recruitments . Also Collaboration with other local professional entities such as IESL, IET .etc, which will attract more industries to partner with us in our upcoming events was the last sector highlighted in his vision. Mr. Pasan Pethiyagode suggested to close the previous IEEE YP Sri Lanka bank account in Bank of Ceylon. Since there is a high chance of that BOC account getting dormant due to not being used for couple of years. Also he advised to deposit the remainings from the BOC account to the current Sampath Bank account and continue to use it as the only IEEE YP SL Section bank account. Vote of thanks was given by the newly appointed Secretary, Ms. Saumya Kumarihamy. The meeting was adjourned following the Vote of Thanks and invited participants for the fellowship.
