Eye Donation Program organized by IAS in University of Moratuwa

University of Moratuwa IAS Chapter conducted a successful Eye and Tissues Donation Campaign with the aid of the Sri Lanka National Eye Bank which is governed by the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society. They are involved in donating human eyes and tissues for transplantation. It serves patients in need both in Sri Lanka and around the world. People can donate their eyes or body parts or whole body to the National Eye Bank upon their death, by signing an agreement with the National Eye Bank. Then, National Eye Bank provides healthy organs free of charge to the patients. As an intermediary organization, University of Moratuwa IAS Chapter’s goal was to find donors for this great course. As a result, the eye donation campaign was conducted on 27th of February 2018 for students from the University of Moratuwa. The full session extended for a period of 3 hours and consisted of a short video about the campaign and IAS University of Moratuwa chapter followed by application distribution and collection session. The sessions were conducted by Lakshitha Gunasekara, Hirunima Jayasekara, and Vinoj Jayasundara; the president, the secretary and the treasurer of the University of Moratuwa student branch chapter, and under the guidance of Dr. Upuli Jayathunga, the adviser of the chapter. Conclusion IAS chapter of University of Moratuwa is focused on academia, as well as serving the humanity. This session was a good example of adopting socially responsible practices as an undergraduate. The programme was extremely successful and the purpose of the programme was fulfilled, resulting more than 200 donors.
