LETs Talk was a project initiated in 2017 by IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka (YP SL) with the aim of enhancing the knowledge of young professionals by organizing a series of technical and non-technical talks. The team was inspired with the theme ‘Road to Success’ which strived them to contribute towards building an open platform for all IEEE Young Professionals and interested individuals with an engineering background where they can participate and listen to eminent professionals to gain and share expertise knowledge. The second episode of LETs Talk was expanded to outreach individuals, from various technological disciplines and to promote the awareness of investment within young professionals to avenue towards a better and brighter future. According to recent surveys done by leading investments companies Millennials also said as the generation Y is investing at a younger age compared with earlier generations. But, the Sri Lankan young generation is less interested and unaware of investment and retirement plans, yet who should be guided to start investing. The more time money is invested, the more time it has to grow. As a result “How to invest in the share market”, episode two of LETs Talk was organized on the 27th of March 2018, at the Colombo Stock exchange Auditorium. More than 50 young professionals representing almost all engineering disciplines attended it. The program was a two hour event with two sessions conducted by Miss. Imesha Fernando, Senior Executive-Investor Education of Colombo Stock Exchange, Sri Lanka. The program covered the following areas: ● Difference between investments/ savings ● How companies raise capital ● Difference between primary/ secondary markets ● Pricing Mechanisms ● Types of Securities ● Risk and Return ● Benefits of investing in shares ● Performance Indicators ● Do's and Don'ts in investing/ trading ● Session on the Colombo Stock Exchange Also Stock Brokers are playing vital role in the stock investment. They got the skill to analysis the market in perfect way and help to select the optimum investment at present situation by predicting future. Considering the facts, we invited Guardian Acuity Asset Management Limited, a leading Stock Broking Company in the industry to upskill the participants further. Finally, achieving the event objectives, the team was able to educate young professionals about share market, and improve confidence in investing in the share market evaluating the risks. During the break, the participants were encouraged to network with each other while enjoying refreshments. The event organizing committee and the YP SL team was successfully able to enhance the awareness of young professionals with the support of industrials to strengthen the IEEE YP SL more and it can be identified as a successful project.
