Technology for Humanity was a tech talk organised by IEEE Industry Applications Society Sri Lanka chapter collaboratively with Creative Tech Talks . Tech talk was held on o3 August 2018 from 6.00 PM to 8.30 PM at Creative Software, Colombo, Sri Lanka with the participation of over 70 attendees. Two speakers shared their insights with the audience - Dr Suranga Nanayakkara, Associate Professor, Auckland Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland and Chaturanga Chandrasekara, Software Architect, Creative Software. Dr.Suranga's talk was centered on the design and development of mobile assistive technology, user interfaces, and interactions that seamlessly integrate with a user’s mind, body and behavior, providing an enhanced perception. This talk presented several proof of concept Assistive Augmentations for enhancing human I/O in the focus areas of assistive technologies, novel input strategies, smart health and well-being, and interactive learning technologies. Chathuranga talked on indirect value addition with the Internet of Things (IoT) for assistive augmentation and how to bridge the gap between the research and the production and the role of IoT in doing that. The audience was enthusiastic and there were many questions for both speakers after their sessions as well as after the event during the networking session. IEEE Industry Applications Society Sri Lanka is looking forward to having similar tech talks in the future!
