Welcome Speech by the Chairman and announcements 1. The Chair 2017, Dr.Sanath Jayawardena welcomed the gathering and read the agenda. Then invited the secretary, Dr.Buddhima Subasinghe to deliver the 2017 AGM minutes. Confirmation of the minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on 9th February 2017 2. After reading the AGM 2017 minutes, chair invited the audience to express any concerns on the conformation of the minutes. Concerns were raised by Dr. Ruwan Ranaweera about the incomplete minutes and incorrect formatting of reporting. Prof. Janaka Ekanayaka also expressed the concern, as it is incomplete and not meeting the standards of the IEEE Sri Lanka section previous minutes. As a solution, Prof. Ekanayaka proposed to send the completed minutes in a week and Mrs. Dilrukshi Gamage seconded it. Prof. Ruwan Gopura inquired whether the new minutes to be re-send by the newly elected Secretary for 2018 or the past Secretary in 2017, and Prof. Ekanayaka stated it is the duty of the past Secretary. Chair 2017 Dr. Jayawardena requested the Secretary 2017, Dr. Buddima Subasignhe, to send the complete minutes within a week to the members via email and get confirmation. Matters arising from the minutes 3. Because the minutes were not confirmed, matters arising from the minutes was not completed at the meeting. Annual activity report presented by the Chairman 4. The chair presented the activity report highlighting several important achievements - Additional student branches (University of Sri Jayewardenepura, University of Kelaniya, and National School of Business Management (NSBM)) Maintain and increase the IEEE membership with inclusion of a few IEEE Senior Members to the section. Establishing a procedure and framework guiding to assure the quality of the IEEE conferences and granting TCS to several international and local conferences based on that. Annual financial report presented by the Treasurer After the Activity report presentation, Treasurer Dr. Rasara Samarasinghe was invited to present the financial report. After the presentation, Prof. Ekanayaka inquired about the process of assigning an exchange rate to the funds received in USD, from HQ and R10, to both USD and LKR current accounts. Treasurer explained the Dollar amounts are exchanged at a rate at the day of transfer of account to LKR. Vote of thanks by the new Secretary The IEEE AGM 2018 was held on 7th Feb 2018 at the Hilton Residencies, Union Place and the IEEE AGM 2017 minutes and financial reports were distributed at the registration desk. The AGM started at 6pm with traditional oil lamp ceremony followed by expressing sincere gratitude to late IEEE Senior member Prof. Gihan Wickramanayake.
