Description
Abstract: Multilevel inverters have found numerous applications in medium to high voltage converters such as traction inverters and modular multilevel converters. The dual inverter drive (DID) with a floating capacitor inverter bridge is one such multilevel converter, which promises several benefits when used with an open-ended winding induction motor (OEWIM). Compared to other multilevel converters with the same number of output levels, the DID has a lower component count and requires a lower DC link voltage. However, these benefits come at the cost of more complex control of the drive compared to other converters, due to the need of simultaneously controlling the motor and the capacitor voltage. The control and modulation of this drive will be discussed in this talk along with some practical aspects of power electronics design in general.
