5th Excom meeting of IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka 2019

1. Welcome by the chair Chandana welcomed the excom and thanked everyone for their participation. 2. Career fair progress Nuwini indicated that 133 has registered for the workshop on “Interview Facing and Personal Grooming” and registrations will be closed on 24th June 2019. Email confirmations will be sent to the registered participants by Nuwini on 24th June 2019. Chandana will look into the token of appreciation for the speakers. Estimated budget is 125 LKR per person for 150 people. Lakshitha will try to obtain camera from the university. Chandana suggested to use mobile phone to record as a backup plan. Nuwini informed that SyscoLabs agreed to host the second workshop in July 2019. Organizers has requested the topics and company logos to proceed with the organizing and waiting for the response from SyscoLabs. Nuwini mentioned the following facts regarding the career fair. Company proposal must be finalized to contact companies. Deadline for company participation confirmation will be set towards the end of July. 84 potential companies have been identified by the organizers. Tentative date for career fair : 13th or 14th of September 2019. 3. LETs Talk Progress Rajitha will confirm the availability of SLIIT metro campus for the next event by 24th June 2019. Dhammika mentioned about difficulty in reserving Dialog auditorium for the next LETs Talk event. Chandana mentioned that the next immediate LETs Talk event will be conducted with the available funds in IEEE YP SL. He further suggested to apply for YP funding opportunities for the third LETs Talk event. Dhammika will apply funding from Zone24x7 for future LETs Talk events. Dhammika suggested that IAS could use the “LETs Talk” brand for their tech talks organized in SL. 4. Quiz Competition Progress Isuri mentioned that the name of quiz competition needs to be finalized. Chandana suggested to conduct a poll to finalize the name. Chandana advised to apply for Local Activity Funding (1000 USD) and local sponsorships. He also highlighted the need for a quiz master. Chandana further suggested to publish a question through YP page each week to engage the audience on facebook. Chandana asked Isuri to list out the potential sponsors for the event and finalize two proposals for corporate and IEEE. 5. Fundraiser Progress Chanaka informed that the proposal has been finalized and the sponsorship letter needs to be finalized. He also added that the committee must start looking for sponsorships immediately. 6. YP Chair Elect Vacancy Chanaka will be leaving for his PhD in August 2019. Chandana requested the committee to indicate the interest of undertaking the Chairman Elect position in the committee. 6. Other matters Nuwini reminded the committee about the IEEE Hall of Fame Award application deadline. Several sections of the YP website are not updated and still displayed as dummy sections. Akila and Nishika will update these sections. Rajitha reminded that the domain of the website expires on 15th July 2019. Next meeting date will be decided by a poll.
