Hackaholics 3.0 is the first Sri Lankan inter-university girls only hackathon where the innovative young girls in Sri Lanka pitched their innovative ideas and came up with the final software products for the final evaluation stage. The final hackathon was held on 23rd of March 2019 at the University of Colombo School of Computing(UCSC) premises with the participation of 15 teams with 3 members per each representing 9 universities of Sri Lanka. The event was a 9-hour competition aimed at uplifting the competency of girls towards problem-solving and building an innovative product to solve existing problems in the country. The main objectives of organizing Hackaholics 3.0 are, Improve women’s contributions towards computing and engineering sectors. Encourage and motivate female undergraduates on programming, Train the participants to analyze risks and enhance them to understand their potential. Provide an opportunity for students to improve and demonstrate their presentation and development skills. The pre-hack session for the hackathon was held prior to Hackaholics 3.0 with the inclusion of expertise knowledge sharing sessions. In preparation for the Hackaholics 3.0 a Pre Hack session was conducted on the 16th of March 2019. The young girls who were selected for the Hackaholics 3.0 got a hands-on experience on the way they should pitch their ideas and implement the final product. They got the industry exposure from industry experts to tune up their skills in order to prepare for the hackathon. This Pre - Hack included sessions about developing public speaking skills and sessions to improve the technical and software development skills of the young female tech enthusiasts. More than 85 teams registered for the initial level evaluations of the hackathon which included female undergraduates from universities across the country. The top 3 teams were awarded valuable cash prizes with claiming the winning spot with team “Codettes” representing University of Colombo School of Computing(UCSC) claiming the winning spot, team “Amigos” representing the University of Kelaniya being crowned first runners-up and team “Ecoist”, also from the University of Kelaniya securing the runners-up place. Participants also gained the opportunity to increase the creativity and innovativeness while time limitations force the participants to come up with creative yet actionable solutions which assisted the participants to understand their own skills and capabilities and widen the perspective and finding and solving problems in the real world through computing.
