Welcome address by Dr. Tharaka Samarasinghe Dr. Tharaka Samarasinghe welcomed the distinguished guests and all IEEE Communication society members to the first Annual general meeting of the IEEE Communication Society chapter of Sri Lanka section. Furthermore, he expressed the need for building up a platform for everyone who is interested in the field of advancing communications through technology. “ Introduction to IEEE Communications Society” - Dr.Kasun Hemachandra This session was to provide an insight into what is IEEE ComSoc and the benefits it offered to all its members on a global scale. Dr. Kasun Hemachandra elaborated on the fact that this is a global network of engineers, practitioners, and academia contributing to the continual innovation of technology in communication. Guest speech Prof.Ruwan Gopura, Chairman-Elect of IEEE Sri Lanka Section delivered the guest speech of the event. The inspirational speech was based on how to grow up as a society chapter and serve the membership by doing various technical activities. He conveyed the good wishes from the IEEE Sri Lanka section for the new society chapter during his speech. Elected Secretary ’s Address The newly appointed Secreatary, Mr. Yasitha explained his vision for the coming year which highlighted of developing memberships from industry, academia & students. Also he highlighted the importance of growing effective relationship with industry by doing technical events that have high demand and acting as an intermediate platform between industry and academia. New ideas or Suggestions from participants Prof. Dileeka Dias, Dean Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Moratuwa suggested to organize competitions for university students through the newly formed IEEE Comsoc, Sri Lanka section. Forming student chapters within University IEEE bodies was identified as a need to connect students with the experts in the field of communication in both the industry and academia. 7. Vote of thanks Vote of thanks was given by the newly appointed Secretary, Mr.Yasitha Harshanath. He thanked everyone for joining hands and invited us to keep in touch with future events and initiatives. 8.Fellowship and Networking The meeting was adjourned following the Vote of Thanks and invited participants for the fellowship.
