Welcome Speech by the chairman and announcement Prof. Kithsiri Liyanage, the Chair of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section welcomed the gathering and invited Mrs. Dilrukshi Gamage, the Secretary of the Section to present the minutes of the AGM 2018. Confirmation of the minutes of the AGM 2018 Dr. Ruwan Ranweera proposed that the minutes of the Annual general meeting held on 7th February 2018 are in order and Dr. S. Vasanthapriyan seconded it. Matters arising from the minutes Dr. Ruwan Ranweera inquired about the meeting minutes of the AGM 2017. The Chairman replied that a softcopy was circulated among the members and no concerns were raised. Annual activity report presented by the Chairman The Chairman presented the annual activity report highlighting some important achievements mentioned below. Current status of the section Distinguished Lecturers Programs Larry K. Wilson Regional Student Activities Award won by Mr. Yasitha Harshanath Region 10 recognition for outstanding section membership recruitment IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference and other activities Technical co-sponsorships and financial co-sponsorships to conferences The annual financial report presented by the Treasurer Dr. Damith Chathuranga, the Treasurer of the section presented the financial report. Mr. Pasan Pethiyagoda and Mr. Dheynoshan Nadarajah requested further details. The Treasurer clarified the reasons for having two accounts (USD and LKR). Further, he agreed to identify the recipients of the IEEE grant valued $3571, which was unspecified in the list of funds received from IEEE. Dr. Sanath Jayawardena proposed that the financial report is in order and Mr. Pasan Pethiyagoda seconded it. Awarding prizes to the winners of the IEEE competitions and the Sri Lanka section competitions Electronic Design Competition 2018 Certificates and cash prizes were awarded to the following students. Members of the Student Activities Sub Committee were also recognized. Registering IEEE as a company Some Pros & Cons of registering IEEE as a company were discussed and it was decided to study further at the executive committee meetings of year 2019. The nominations were as follows. Ms. Nuwini Dulanga, the outgoing SSR was appreciated for the initiatives taken during her tenure. The newly appointed Secretary handed over a certificate of appreciation to the outgoing SSR. Welcome speech by the new Chairman Prof. Chandimal Jayawardena, the newly appointed Chair of the section thanked the membership for appointing him. He appreciated the outgoing committee for their valuable contribution, particularly in organizing the Humanitarian Technology Conference 2018. He stated that a concrete plan for the year 2019 will be produced at the first executive committee meeting. Further, he emphasized the importance of having more student activities in corporation with the industry. Any other matters Mr. Pasan Pethiyagoda proposed to recognize the service of the members as well at the AGM in addition to the achievements and contribution of the student members. He appreciated that Dr. Ruwan Ranaweera engaged in evaluating regional level competitions representing Sri Lanka. Vote of thanks by the new Secretary The newly appointed Secretary delivered the vote of thanks and the meeting was adjourned at 8.30 pm.
