IAS Comrades is a novel initiative by IEEE IAS SBC of University of Moratuwa, hand-in-hand with IEEE IAS Sri Lanka Chapter that encompasses many objectives including building fellowship between Sri Lankan IAS Student Branch Chapters, membership development, creating awareness on IAS Competitions for undergraduates and encouraging Student Branches in Sri Lanka without IAS Chapters to initiate an IAS Chapter. Following the success of Phase 1 held at University of Peradeniya, where awareness sessions on benefits of joining IAS and IAS CMD Contests were held, a similar program was organized under Phase 2 on 10th March 2020 focusing our own University of Moratuwa. The main speaker was Mr. Tharindu Suraj - Research Engineer at University of Moratuwa and Contest Winner of Myron Zucker Undergraduate Student Design Contest 2018 and IAS CMD Student Robotics Demonstration Contest in 2019, and his session included an introduction about IAS and IAS CMD competitions, followed by steps to write an effective report for a project. Mr. Vinura Udaraka, Chairman of IEEE IAS SBC of University of Moratuwa and contest winner of IEEE SS12 Maker Fair 2018 and Myron Zucker Undergraduate Design Contest 2019, also shared his experiences of the international competitions he has been a part of. Apart from the awareness session, the IAS Comrades team also conducted an informatory flyer distribution program at Final-Year Project Demonstrations held at the various Departments of Engineering at University of Moratuwa. The flyer consisted of details of IAS CMD Contests and past winners from University of Moratuwa. Undoubtedly, the action sparked up interest within the minds of those young engineers to submit their projects for those competitions and let the world know about their talents. Accordingly, IAS Comrades - Phase 2 concluded successfully at University of Moratuwa.
