EXCOM Meeting of IAS Sri Lanka Section

May 15, 2019 · 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM @ Colombo, Online

Description

The EXCOM joined together for an online call following up on the previous meeting with the purpose of deciding and planning the humanitarian project. After everyone brought forth their ideas the feasibility of each idea was roughly discussed and it was decided to conduct the project with relation to the light bulbs used in poor households. In Sri Lanka, poor households mostly use incandescent bulbs with higher wastage and heat as well as a higher electricity bill. It was suggested that we could help thee households to switch to LED light bulbs. When discussing about how to acquire the light bulbs in a cost-effective way, another suggestion was to involve undergraduates from universities to make the light bulbs. It was apparent that this project could be used to spread awareness among the undergraduates about IAS while at the same time improving a skill in them. IAS were to provide the LED assembly kits required to the students along with workshops on how to fabricate the LED bulbs and even wire a house. These students will be involved when distributing and installing these to the selected households. It was decided that these distribution sessions should be done along with an awareness session about the benefits of LED, its current usage and how to avoid hazards. The meeting was concluded after planning on finalizing the scope and setting milestones for execution.
