Description
PIT STOP 2.0 which was held on 20th December 2020 was organized by the Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of the IEEE Student Branch of SLIIT in collaboration with IMechE Student Chapter of SLIIT. The webinar Pitstop 2.0 took up a decent start with Nuwanthi Abeygunawardena ,Chairperson of WIE Student Branch inviting the guest speaker for this season, Mr. Yukitha Abeyasinghe to take over the floor and proceed with the presentation. The presentation which spanned for nearly 2 hours, gave a clear image on the current technologies and mechanisms in practice and the future developments to be expected in the automobile industry. Some topics discussed were: How engines are operated Hybrid technology Impact management and proposed mechanisms to reduce the effect Upcoming Smart car concept Safety Mechanisms Innovative technological improvements to be expected Next a video was presented to the spectators where demonstrations on certain practical scenarios were conducted. They briefly were: Basic engine components and their functions Method to check oil level in car and coolant check Basic skills on tyre changing and wiper fluid Correct driving posture After this the floor was open for the participants who joined us through various platforms to ask any questions and get them clarified by our guest speaker. The questions to be asked were collected via a link posted to the participants in the platform – Zoom. After an amazing session with questions and answers the event next moved towards hosting an interesting quiz competition done via Kahoot where top 3 winners were promised with cash prizes. The winners were asked to send their details and to be contacted after the event. The quiz consisted of 15 rounds. Finally, the vote of thanks was done by Omila Vidanage from the IMechE Student Chapter of SLIIT. Afterwards the session was brought to a closure with an amazing final group photo with the participants.
