The first international women in Engineering Symposium 2020 (WIESymp 2020) was held on the theme, “Technological Advancements for Humanity”, with the aim of fostering technological innovation and excellence. WIESymp 2020 was a unique platform for researchers, engineers, scientists, technologists, inventors and representatives from NGOs, government, industry and academia to disseminate knowledge, share experience and network. The first call for papers was declared open on July 1 2020 wherein authors were able to submits their papers until the end of August. The successful candidates were notified of their acceptance in mid-October and submissions were made camera ready to complete the registration of authors by October 30 2020. More than 30 authors presented their research work under the areas of robotics & automation, power & energy, computing & information technology and electronics & telecommunication. The online tracks and virtual closing ceremony of WIESymp 2020 was held on November 15 2020 accompanied by an informative Keynote by Prof. Udith K. Jayasinghe, Vice Chancellor of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, on “Promoting Collaborative and Effective Research Through Virtual Environment”. Several virtual tracks via Zoom were utilized for the prestigious authors to display their work and disseminate knowledge. With the participation of over 50 national and international students, professionals and experts in the field, WIESymp 2020 concluded on a high note thanks to all the sponsors, reviewers, advisory committee members, and technical program committee members.
