“DEEEP SPEED” is a line following robot competition which was organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering-UOP, in collaboration with IEEE Student Branch, IEEE RAS and Robotics society of University of Peradeniya under the supervision of Dr. Janaka Wijayakulasooriya. It was held on 14th December, 2019, at the Drawing office 1 in the faculty of Engineering. The event was organized for first year undergraduates as a group project by Dr. Janaka Wijayakulasooriya , in order to enhance the knowledge about robotics with creative thinking. Initially, there was an eye-opening talk on critical thinking conducted by Prof.Kithsiri Liyanage. It was a very competitive event with nearly 90 teams. It was really interested to witness that each and every robot were unique and fascinating. Students were there with curiosity to see whether robots will follow the path correctly or not. And also, there was a challenge to follow the given path speedily than other line following robots. Team “Phoenix” led by Nisal paranawithana won the competition beating team “Cheetah” led by Harsha Piyumal in the final round. At the end of the competition, Dr. Janaka Wijayakulasooriya thanked all the sponsors, mentors and the organizing team in his speech and also said, “Congratulations! Not only the winners of the game, but also, all others who sacrificed energy and time to prove that those who are dedicated will be winners, may not be today, but surely will be one day”.
