IEEE EMBS International Student Conference (Day 2)

February 7, 2021 · 4:15 AM - 11:15 AM @ Online event

Description

The first-ever IEEE EMBS (Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society) approved International Student Conference (ISC) in Sri Lanka was organized by the IEEE EMBS student branch chapter of the University of Moratuwa. This is the most exciting event that they have ever produced . ISC 2021, Moratuwa was held as a scientific symposium dedicated to mathematical, computational and innovative aspects of biomedical engineering across all scales of experimentation with the objective of establishing an international platform that has an eccentric potential to manipulate the novel gold standards of biomedical engineering. Additionally it aimed to provide an opportunity for university undergraduates and professionals to collaborate on their mutual passion for biomedical engineering, to establish strong relations between universities and industrial institutions, to provide aspiring innovators a platform through which they can interact with the industry with the possibility of future collaboration and investment inviting the possibility of future international collaboration through the invitation of foreign delegates and to enhance collaboration between engineering and medical disciplines. It crucially nurtured cross-fertilization of divergent knowledge streams and thus, collaborates with an integrative approach to biomedical engineering. IEEE EMBS Student Branch Chapter of the University of Moratuwa in Technical Co-sponsorship with the student chapter of the IEEE signal processing society at the University of Moratuwa and the Biomedical Research and Innovation Collective (BRIC) organized this event from 6th to 7th February 2021. The conference had ICBT Study Abroad as the network partner and with SLIC as the strategic partner. LSEG Technology offered ISC 2021, Moratuwa the platinum sponsorship and ICBT Study Abroad offered Gold sponsorship. And the silver sponsorship was offered by the Cleantech (Pvt) ltd. ISC 2021, Moratuwa, consisted of two interactive webinars before the conference. The very first webinar session of the ISC 2021 conference was held on the 28th of November at 7.00 pm as a virtual session which was host by Zoom. The webinar session was conducted by Mr. Kithmin Wickremasinghe, a contract Lecturer of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, and the Co-founder of the BRIC company (Biomedical Research and Innovation Collective). The main topic which was discussed in the webinar session is the path of publishing a research paper. The second webinar session of the ISC 2021 conference was held on the 25th of January 2021, as a virtual session which was host by Zoom. The webinar session was conducted by Mr. Dhammika Perera, renowned business magnate/ philanthropist, and Chairman of Vallibel One PLC. The main topic which was discussed in the webinar session is “ Think Positive: Inspire Success”. This conference included keynote addresses from several prominent personalities. Dr Darlene Solomon, Ph.D., from Agilent technologies joined with ISC 2021, Moratuwa on the topic ‘Life Science Megatrends Shaping Our Future’ as the first keynote speaker. Professor David B. Grayden, the Clifford Chair of Neural Engineering in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Melbourne School of Engineering, and the Graeme Clark Institute for Biomedical Engineering. Expanded the attendee’s knowledge on the subject ‘Epilepsy, Algorithms, and AI: Personalised Seizure Forecasting’ as the second keynote speaker. Professor Chulhong Kim from the Pohang University of Science and Technology spoke on, “Trans-Energy Multimodal Imaging: from Development to Commercial Products via Clinical Translation” as the third keynote speaker. Two workshops was held for the determined innovators presented at the conference. The first workshop was on the title “Applications of multi-dimensional linear filters for processing light fields by Dr. Chameera Edusooriya (B.Sc.Eng. (Moratuwa), M.A.Sc ., Ph.D. (UVic), MIEEE). The second workshop was held on the title “ Healthcare research: from sketchbook to real-world implementation during a global pandemic” by Biomedical Research and Innovation Collective (BRIC). Young innovators from all around the world of academia, industry and corporate backgrounds could present their researches as well as breakthrough solutions for the diverging challenges in the biomedical engineering discipline in ISC 2021, Moratuwa.
