Microgrids which serve as a platform for balancing demand and supply emphasize the idea of organizing and optimizing electricity networks locally. As utilities plan their infrastructure investments, they are seeing utility microgrids as viable resources that can bring value to their customers, especially in the commercial and industrial sector. The Tech Talk 1.0 on Residential Microgrids of the Future... Today was organized by the IEEE Power Electronics Society Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa to create a vivid awareness of the micro and nano grids today. It was conducted by Mr. A. J. Perkins, the President of Instant ON and Former President of DR Microgrid LLC. He is also an award-winning motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and a celebrated leadership trainer. The Tech Talk 1.0 was hosted by Jayoda Dissanayake from the student branch chapter and firstly the welcome speech was delivered by Professor Udayanga Hemapala, the Chapter Advisor of IEEE Power Electronics Society SBC of University of Moratuwa. Thereafter the tech talk was handed over to the guest speaker Mr. A.J. Perkins for his informative presentation. It served a great platform full of explanations about Microgrids, the importance for the present day and about how the evolution has occurred since the invention. And then, the Q&A session was conducted providing the audience an opportunity to clear out their doubts related to micro and nano grids where the participants dived in to clarify their queries and questions about the future of this sector. With the conclusion of a successful sequence of answers, the vote of thanks was delivered by Zahra Marzook, the Assistant Secretary of IESL Young Members Sectional Committee. Thereon the inspiring Tech Talk 1.0 was concluded by enhancing a great knowledge to its interested audience.
