Turn the Tide is a technical workshop series organized by the IEEE student branch of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University to provide technical knowledge and industrial opportunities for tech enthusiasts with the help of industry professionals As the second step to the series Turn the Tide : Essentials for Successful Project - Computer Edition was held on 14th August 2020 with the purpose of giving proper guidance and essentials to the computing undergraduates to select their final year project. By accepting our invitation, Mr.Shakthi Weerasinghe and Mr. Damith Wickramanayake joined us as speakers along with this journey. Mr.Shakthi Weerasinghe is one of the proud products of the University of Moratuwa and currently a Software Engineer at 99X Technology with experience in both Enterprise Application Development and Research. He was the proud recipient of the gold medal for the best academic performance in the BSc (Hons) degree in Information Technology and the graduate to have achieved the highest score at the evaluation for Prof.Dayantha S. Wijesekara Award for the Most Outstanding Graduate of the General Convocation in 2019 amongst the graduates of the faculty for his all-round performance during the undergraduate career including to have held the role of Editor-in-Chief at FIT Chronicle magazine and proven to guide an Asia-Pacific regional award-winning team Being a technology enthusiastic to have won multiple Hackathons and Innovation Competitions, Shakthi will be joining to provide his insights on the relevance of Research to pursue a professionals career in the industry. Prof. Damith Wickramanayake is an Experienced Researcher, with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education and Consulting industry. Skilled in Analytical, Coaching, Lecturing, and Event Management. Strong education professional with a Doctor of Education (EdD) focused on E-Learning & IT from Nova Southeastern University. MSc in Computing from Bradford University in 1990, and bachelor’s in engineering as a First degree from University of Moratuwa, in 1985. The workshop was held through Zoom. With the 100+ online participants we have been able to successfully conduct the Turn the Tide: Essentials for Successful Project - Computer Edition. Our heartiest complement to our guest speakers for giving us the motivation to make the event a positive and memorable experience. And our immense gratitude to all the participants for being a wonderful audience.
