Turn the Tide is a technical workshop series organized by the 2020 executive committee of IEEE student branch of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University to provide technical knowledge and industrial opportunities for tech enthusiasts with the help of industry professionals. Also one of the major goal of this Turn the Tide workshop series is to provide a better understanding of what are the most trending technologies, tools and study areas in the Computer Science and IT industry. Turn the Tide: AR and VR session organized based on Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. Main reason for selecting this topic was, i n the IT field, one of the big market trends for the last 5-6 years has been a focus on Virtual Reality and Augmented reality devices and applications. Also It is becoming increasingly important for UX designers to create amazing VR and AR experiences. In the workshop we mainly focused on giving a sound knowledge on Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality for the undergraduates. Workshop held on 1st of November 2020 from 6.30PM to 8.30PM via Zoom. By accepting our invitation, Prof. Janaka Rajapakse went along with us as the speaker of the day. Janaka Rajapakse is a Professor at the Graduate Institute of Animation and Film Art, Tainan National University of the Arts, Taiwan. He received his B.Sc. degree in computer science from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He won the Japanese Government Scholarship for his higher studies in Japan. His research interests include computer animations, motion capture techniques, computer graphics, virtual reality, haptic interfaces, 3D Printing, interactive media, and Kansei engineering. Prof. Rajapakse is the author or co-author of over eighty academic publications. He is a Member of Motion Capture Society (MCS), The Society for Art and Science, IEEE, DCSIG, and ASIAGRAPH. Registration for the event opened on 29th October. After receiving 170+ responses, the registrations have been officially closed on 31st October and We send out invitations to our lucky registrars who have been selected to attend the workshop. With the 120+ online participants we have been able to successfully conduct the very first Turn the Tide- AR and VR . It was a great success, our heartiest complement to our guest speaker for giving us the motivation to make the event a positive and memorable experience.
