This project was organized with the aim of giving a good awareness to the newly joined batch of SLTC, since the new batch of the campus have no proper idea about IEEE and IEEE Societies and how it helps to their future career. By doing an Awareness Session like this, can give the participants a clearer understanding about IEEE and IEEE Societies of Sri Lanka Technological Campus and to increase new memberships of IEEE Student Branch of SLTC. The Awareness Session was held on 2 nd of May 2021, via Zoom online platform. The Session started at 6.00 pm with the participation of the students who are looking forward to joining with IEEE of Sri Lanka Technological Campus. This was conducted as an interactive and interesting session for the participants. The session started at 6.00 pm and the participants were joining from the link shared before. All participants were the undergraduates of Sri Lanka Technological Campus where the majority was from the newly joined 8 th batch. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Dhammika Marasinghe, Students Activities Chair – IEEE Sri Lanka section, Chair – Elect IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka. The session was moderated by Mr. Hasira Koswatte. First the welcome speech was delivered by Mr. Manula Rajapakse, the Project Co-Chair. Then Mr. Thimeth Perera, Chairman of IEEE Student Branch of SLTC addressed the gathering. As the first speech Mr. Manodya Nabadawewa, Head of Student Advisors of IEEE Student Branch of SLTC delivered an interesting speech by sharing a presentation along with. In his speech he highlighted the importance of joining IEEE Student Branch of SLTC, the milestones of IEEE SB of SLTC, the victorious years of IEEE SB of SLTC and the pillars behind the success of IEEE SB of SLTC. Then Mr. Dhammika Marasinghe addressed the gathering. He shared an interesting presentation along with where he explained the importance of IEEE, the global exposure one can get by joining IEEE, skills improved by engaging in IEEE, recognition received by being an IEEE member, IEEE membership benefits, national and international level projects in IEEE and professional level in IEEE. He conducted the session interactively by creating online polls to get answers. A wide scope regarding IEEE was discussed throughout his session. Next, Mr. Thimeth Perera, Chairman of IEEE SB of SLTC did a presentation regarding IEEE in SLTC. The areas one can engage by joining IEEE, benefits one can get by joining the IEEE societies in SLTC, projects conducted in national level and international level by IEEE SB of SLTC and the achievements of IEEE SB of SLTC along with the fun activities one can engage in joining IEEE were explained. After the speech of the Chairman of IEEE SB of SLTC, the Chapter Chairmen of IEEE Student Branch Chapters addressed the gathering. First Ms. Michelle Perera, Chairman of WIE Affinity Group of SLTC addressed the gathering. She explained the importance of joining WIE for girls, the projects conducted so far by WIE Affinity Group of SLTC and the benefits one can get by being a member of WIE Affinity Group of SLTC. Next Mr. Thanuja Wickramasinghe, Chairman of IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter of SLTC addressed the gathering. He shared a presentation where he explained the significance of IEEE IES in SLTC being the 1 st IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter in Sri Lanka, the importance of joining IES for undergraduates in fields of electronics, the projects conducted by IEEE IES of SLTC and the opportunities one can get by joining IES Student Branch Chapter of SLTC. Then Mr. Nawodya Ishan, Chairman of IEEE CS Student Branch Chapter of SLTC addressed the gathering where he shared a presentation and discussed about the initiations of newly formed CS, projects completed and upcoming, importance of joining IEEE CS for the students studying in the field of IT, the professional connections that can be made by joining IEEE CS and the benefits that one can receive to improve skills as an undergraduate entering the IT industry. As the last Chapter introduction, Mr. Sasya Senerath, Chairman of IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter of SLTC addressed the gathering. As the latest addition to the IEEE family in SLTC he explained the importance of joining IEEE IAS for the undergraduates in civil, mechatronics & biosystems engineering fields, the projects done by IEEE IAS, the importance of joining IAS to get to know about the new technologies in the industry and excel in the future career. With the final chapter introduction, the IEEE Awareness Session – 2021 came to an end. Ms. Neranjana Rashmi, Project Secretary delivered the vote of thanks thanking the special guests, organizing committee and everyone who put their fullest effort to make this event a great success.
