The GISLA'21 project, "Youth during Covid-19", was launched on 5 th of May 2021 and successfully completed on 15 th of June 2021 with the dedication of everyone. The IEEE Student Branch of Sri Lanka Technological Campus built a global platform to showcase the talents of young people, enabling them to develop their skills and share their talents. The project was conducted under three categories; The Digital Arts Competition The Video Documentary (Short Video) Competition The Speech Contest The competitions were open to all competitors of all age groups in society, especially for the vulnerable youth from all over the globe. Competitors were encouraged to apply their submissions according to guidelines following them to create work that inspire people across the world. The project was promoted internationally, and the participation of Sri Lankan and international competitors were excellent. Each category had its own set of guidelines which the competitors had to follow accordingly. The Digital Arts Competition Images that displayed characteristics such as relevancy to the caption, uniqueness and creativity were particularly appealed to the judgment. Eligibility requirements for the competition; competitors must only use software such as Photoshop, illustrator, coral draw and GIMP. The digital arts were not accepted is it was with a tag or watermark. The Video Documentary (Short Video) Competition The main idea was to find astounding motion pictures. Attention was paid to music and sound, graphics, narration, CGI, reconstructions, relativity to theme and subtitles which was optional. Eligibility requirements for the competition, a recorded video, selfie video, or animated video could be used, any type of editing was accepted and the video had to be uploaded in mp4 format. The Speech Contest Talent, impression, relevancy to the theme, creativity, uniqueness and ideation, and time-bound were plus points for competitors. The speeches could contain any of the languages; Sinhala, English or Tamil. Videos with any tags or watermarks were not accepted. The main objectives of this project were to; Inspire creation, critical thinking and public speaking skills. Inspire youth to be optimistic. Provide a platform to present digital design and IT skills, as well as interpersonal skills. Promote SLTC and IEEE of SLTC among the community. Project promotions were started on 9 th of May 2021 through flyers and gifs. Submissions were accepted from 13 th of May 2021 to 7 th of June 2021. The judgement and voting period started on 7 th of June 2021 and it lasted until 12 th of June 2021. During this time; The top 10 entries in the Digital Art Competition will be posted on Facebook for voting, then the top 7 entries will be selected for the cash prizes. The top 10 entries in the Short Video Competition will be posted on YouTube for viewing and voting, then the top 3 entries will be selected for cash prizes. The top 10 entries in the Speech Contest will be posted on Instagram for voting, then the top 3 entries will be selected for cash prizes. Finally declaring of winners and the project conclusion were on 15 th of June 2021. Well-known and honorable figures were invited to judge the competitions. The judges were familiarized with the evaluation criteria and scoring rubric, a copy of the judges’ guide was sent to them beforehand.
