Description

ENTREVisTAS ‘21 is a three-day project organized by the IEEE WIE affinity group of SLTC consisting of a webinar, a panel discussion, and a workshop. All three sessions were dedicated mainly to female undergraduates to improve their skills when entering the industry as fresh graduates in the future. The first session of the project ENTREVisTAS’21 was on “How to write a better CV and How to maintain a good LinkedIn profile.” It was held through Zoom and broadcasted live on the Facebook pages of the IEEE Student Branch of SLTC. The webinar was open to all female and male undergraduates all around the world. It was able to reach a participant count of around 300 participants. The accomplished objectives of the session were to discuss how to improve personal documentation skills and how to express strengths and skills verbally with an eye-catching CV and an exemplary LinkedIn profile. Since the main target audience was undergraduates, the speaker gave the main weight on how to make these documents with a smaller amount of experience. Also, we got great feedback as there was a Q and A session at the end of the guest speaker’s presentation. The second session of ENTREVisTAS’21 was the panel discussion on workplace behavior. It was held through the Zoom online platform and also broadcasted live on the Facebook pages of the IEEE Student Branch of SLTC. Registrations were open to all undergraduates from all around the world, and the panel discussion recorded an approximate total of 150 participants. The session consisted of engaging conversations where the panelists enlightened the audience with questions presented from the key areas of the industrial training period, work-life balance, and gender diversity. Special attention was paid to the concerns that women would place in the workplace, to which we received numerous positive feedback from our female undergraduate participants. The panelists provided their knowledge on real-life situations and answered the questions and doubts the participants presented. Our objective was to help our participants to prepare themselves to maintain personality standards in the workplace. The overall feedback we received confirmed that we were able to accomplish our goal. The third session of the project ENTREVisTAS ‘21 included a five-hour online workshop session intended solely for female undergraduates across the globe. This online workshop session was executed successfully as pre-planned with around 50 female registrants. The accomplished objectives of the third session were to provide an insight into workplace behavior, develop their personality and improve their problem-solving, communication, and critical thinking skills needed to face job interviews in the professional environment by evaluating the participants with practical exposure to the professional world through real-life case scenarios. Pre-registered participants were invited to the online workshop session through a registration form sent via e-mail that was required to be filled by the participant. The workshop consisted of 2 categories of evaluations; individual evaluation and a teamwork evaluation, both based on real-life situations that were assessed by a reputed professional in the industry representing the panel of judges. An industrial coordinator for each participant and the individual team was assigned as a means of information communication from the organizing committee, judges to the participant or team. The duration of the individual evaluation was around 10 minutes, which also included a 2-minute feedback discussion about the participant's performance. A duration of 10 minutes was allocated for the prepared teamwork evaluation, which also included a 2-minute feedback discussion session. For the teamwork evaluation, a group of 5 participants was teamed up, names of team members shared via a Google sheet, and added to relevant WhatsApp groups a day before the evaluation within the supervision of student coordinators. The 5 participants were chosen to create diversity among the team members regarding factors such as age, university, and faculty of study, a program of study, and cultural background. This grouping technique was also used as an evaluation criterion like the ease of working together with people from different backgrounds. The participants were awarded valuable and well-recognized certificates according to their performances during the evaluation with the platinum certificate being the highest evaluation followed by gold, silver, and bronze. The project's major achievement was providing the female undergraduates an innovative platform to face the professional world with prior experience, despite social anxieties and beliefs. We used a new approach throughout the sessions to place them in practical problematic situations that they might encounter in the future. The facts to develop their personality and skills were offered through individual and group evaluations and comments from the interview panelists. So, these sessions made it easier for them to effectively cope with the change of their surroundings from the academic environment to the professional environment. .
