The third workshop of the series “Sinhalen DOCS Move & Xplore Workshop #03 Youth & Inventor” was held on 14th of January 2021 via zoom online platform from 7 PM onwards in the aim of promoting the innovative concepts among young crowd, improving their basic knowledge and providing necessary guidance on inventions. Inventions are also an essential component of innovation in art and design. The limits of human understanding, experience or capability are also expanded by inventions. It has been possible to check over time that each invention creates a number of advantages for the inventor and society. Nowadays young generation are leading the way in inventing new innovations. They are the creators of the future in meantime. With the country's prevailing situation, there is a huge likelihood of using an online platform to learn and look for things. Everything has become digitalized. In that case this project was beneficial for all the IEEE and LEO community around the country and for each and every young individual who has the dream to become an inventor in future. Some of the aims and priorities behind the workshop are as follows Introducing hidden innovative opportunities for enthusiastic youth. Providing necessary guidance to the inventors to improve the quality of their inventions. Promoting the organizational names of Leo and IEEE within the Sri Lankan community. Promoting the technology-based innovative methods inside the technical domain of Sri Lanka. For conducting the workshop, we really wanted to have a personality with having ideas on invention skills that can influence the youth on innovating. Therefore, we contacted, Mr. Dilshan Abeywardane, who is a well-experienced inventor, an Hon. Minister of Health- World Commonwealth Parliament, Honorary title ‘Deshamanya’ at Government organization, inventor of the heart-pounding breast implant, consultant in the field of biomedical engineering for conducting the webinar. There were two stages of sending mails. In first round, secretary team sent inviting email and a google calendar invitation to the main webinar host, Mr. Dilshan Abeywardane. And as the final stage, we sent e-mails to all the registered participants, who have previously registered via the Google form with the zoom link. Around 130 participants had registered through the google form. From registrations, around 80 joined through Zoom platform and others joined through Facebook live broadcast. We started the promotions on second week of January. Manodya Nabadawewa, a great personality with excellent compering abilities, was the moderator of the event. The participants were admitted to the zoom session by the co-hosts by 07.00 pm and the session proceeded according to the above agenda. The speaker explained the reasons and solutions for Sri Lankan students to remain at a lower level of innovation compared to students in other countries, how to register an invention idea, and about invention competitions. His advice to the participants was to get a good understanding of the competition organizing committee before participating in the invention competitions. Q & A session was effectively held, the questions that were sent to the session moderator, Manodya Nabadawewa by the participants were directed to the mentors and the questions were answered by them. During the Q&A session Mr. Dilshan Abeywardane gave his and Prof. Rangika Halwatura’s (Commissioner of Innovation) Contact number to the participants to contact them regarding new innovations. It was a great opportunity to the young inventors to unleash their new inventions. After a successful Q & A session, the webinar was ended with a heartfelt thank giving for the mentors done by the moderator by 8.00 p.m.
