Description

WIN - Women IN Need " is a magazine proudly organized by the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) affinity group of the Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) . This is the first-ever edition of the magazine which was to be published to showcase the talents of the SLTC girls. This magazine contains an insight of WIE news, technical news of the society, WIE project description (SLTC), new technical ideas of students, Poems, songs, artworks etc. The key objectives of publishing this magazine were to provide documented coverage of any event happening in SLTC, to provide a platform for the students and staff of SLTC to showcase their amazing pen craft talents, and also mainly to get a better awareness and understanding of SLTC for whoever is interested in. The day, September 8 th, 2020 marked the initiation of registration and the first round of submissions was commenced on the 1 st of October 2020 with the theme “Here’s to strong women: may we know them, may we be them, may raise them”, and the closing date for submissions was October 31 st , 2020. The prime objective in accepting the submissions was to collect fruitful and creative technical articles regarding WIE or other important topics, as well as poems, songs, and artworks. The applicants were given the flexibility to submit their creative content in trilingual languages as a group or individually. Consequently, due to high demand mostly from the SLTC community, the WIN magazine organizing committee decided to extend the deadline for submissions until the 31 st of December 2020. So the second round for submissions was initiated to grab the amazing creations of our talented girls on the theme "Send us your creations- Unleash your creative soul". The next procedure was to choose the best articles from all the submissions. Therefore, the best and the outstanding articles were judged and were chosen by a panel of professionals. The panel consisted of senior lecturers of SLTC, Ms. Upeksha Chathurani lecturer in faculty of engineering and academic advisor of IEEE student branch of SLTC, Dr. Lasith Yasakethu, a senior lecturer of faculty of engineering and Dr. Udesh Oruthota senior lecturer, faculty of engineering in SLTC. Afterwards the Best Article, Best Poem, Best Pencil Artwork and Best Design Artwork was selected by the judging panel. Conclusively with the help of the good team spirit and with the guidance of the advisors of WIN magazine we were able to publish such a creative newsletter on the 11 th of April 2021 with massive success.
