Description

The IEEE Student Branch of SLIIT initiated a monthly meeting series to increase awareness of the IEEE community among the students. The first monthly meeting for the month of May was held on the 21st of May 2021 via the ZOOM online platform. The session had a number of 100+ participants. The session started off with an introduction to IEEE and IEEE at SLIIT by the Student Branch chairperson and secretary. This was followed by presentations by the chairpersons of the Women in Engineering Affinity Group, Computer Society, Power and Energy Society and Industrial Application Society, giving an insight to the chapters and affinity groups. Next the guest speaker for the day, Samitha Wijeysundara, chairperson of IEEE Student Branch of SLIIT 2020/2021, was invited to enlighten the audience on the IEEE the website, creation of IEEE mail and IEEE service like IEEE Collabratec, IEEE DataPort, IEEE Learning Network, IEEE Tv, IEEE Spectrum, IEEE Center for Leadership Excellence, IEEE Xplore Digital Library and IEEE CS Digital Library. The links to the IEEE services, IEEE Sri Lanka Section, and social media sites of the IEEE Student Branch of SLIIT, Women in Engineering Affinity Group, Computer Society, Power and Energy Society and Industrial Application Society were shared to the participants. Also, the students who were willing to join IEEE were invited to join the IEEE members WhatsApp group.
