Robotricks 21/22 - Phase 2 - Webinar 1-Sensor Fusion

Description
The first webinar of Robotricks – Phase 2, organised by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, the student chapter of University of Peradeniya, was held on 17 th of August 2021 from 6.00 p.m. onwards via zoom platform. The webinar was conducted by Dr. Janaka Wijayakulasooriya from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, who has practiced and published so many journals and conference papers covering various fields such as Signal Processing, Intelligent Systems and Instrumentations and he is also the Director of Information Technology Center, University of Peradeniya. The webinar was opened for all the undergraduates interested in Robotics and who plan to succeed in the Robotics Industry in the future. At the commencement of the event, an introduction of the keynote speaker was delivered. Afterwards, Dr. Janaka Wijayakulasooriya started the session by presenting the simplest definition of sensor fusion “Acting Together to Achieve Further”. After that, he started his presentation which includes four main parts; What is sensor fusion, where can we use it, levels of sensor fusion and how can we do it. Finally, he highlighted the advantages and opportunities of being passionate about the modern world of robotics and automation. He especially appreciated the fact of being yourself rather than doing things just to complete the tasks. At the end of the main session, the participants were able to lighten their minds moreover in the Q/A session, where they were able to get answers to a lot of questions that they have sent us during the session. Also, they were able to clarify their doubts regarding sensor fusion and especially regarding the robotics industry and how to get ready to be a part of the near future as robotics enthusiasts. All the questions were appreciated by Dr. Wijayakulasooriya, as questioning is the best way to learn new things. Also, when the token of appreciation was given to the keynote speaker, he again reminded us of being ourselves and try to think in an innovative manner. Before winding up the session, Mr. Udula Ranasighe, the secretary of the Robotics and Automation society gave an introduction about the competition which will be held as the final task for the participants. The competitors and the winners will be receiving certificates for their achievements. Finally, to remark the end of the first webinar of phase 2 , the Vote of Thanks was delivered and the session was concluded with a huge success.
