Description
The IEEE Computer Society of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) organizes “CODECON 2.0” with the aim of conducting an online hackathon during the Covid-19 lockdown period. The event was previously open only for students of SLIIT, but this year Codecon 2.0 will be an open event where any undergraduate from Sri Lanka can participate in. This event is intended to provide a meaningful way to spend the free time of students during the lockdown period while the whole country is going through a lockdown and travel restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic. The Tech industry is committed to playing a constructive role in responding to and helping to mitigate the spread of the virus and help the local society via online services. Therefore, CODECON 2.0 will be intended to provide software solutions and valuable ideas to resolve the problems due to Covid-19. The main objective of this hackathon will be to develop software solutions or ideas that could be helpful to tackle the spread of the pandemic and overcome difficulties faced by the local community in day-to-day life during this Covid-19 period. Additionally, the project is intended to help the undergraduates of Sri Lanka to cope up with the boredom of staying at home during this lockdown period and learn new technologies and put forward their ideas to help create software or other technical ideas to solve problems at present. It will also be an opportunity for them to get hands-on with the GitHub platform which teaches a key component of version control in the field of IT if they are submitting a software-based idea/solution. The event will be an online hackathon aimed at helping undergraduates to use their lockdown period effectively. The hackathon will be a seven-day event where the participants could participate individually or as a team of three where they will build a software solution or come up with an idea, under the theme related to a situation prevalent in this lockdown period. The registration process will be started via our website which will collect the GitHub IDs of the participants (if a Software is submitted), a small brief on their project as well as a GitHub repo link. If the participants come up with a non-software-based idea (website/platform/service etc.) they can submit a document mentioning their idea in detail and a pitching video to a google drive folder and share the link. After screening, the participants will be officially part of the hackathon. After concluding the hackathon, the judges will evaluate and select the top three participants(teams). The top three and other participants will be given an online certificate which will later be provided with a physical certificate when the Campus starts. Also, there will be a separate category where the most popular idea is selected and given a prize, this will be done by social media likes to their respective pitching videos.
