Description
The Annual General Meeting of the IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter for the term 2021/2022 was held virtually via Zoom on the 20th of August 2021. The AGM commenced with an introduction to the IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa and the gathering was welcomed by the outgoing chairman Mr. Oshada Jayasinghe. The event was graced by two astounding figures in the field, the Vice President for membership of IEEE IES, Prof. Yousef Ibrahim from Melbourne, Australia, and the coordinator of student branch chapters of IEEE IES, Prof. William Dai from Shanghai, China. Prof. Yousef and Prof. Dai enlightened the gathering with great insights about IEEE IES through very informative and thorough speeches. Afterwards, the minutes of the 2020 AGM and the financial report for the year 2020/2021 were presented by the outgoing secretary and the outgoing treasurer respectively. They were proposed and seconded as true and accurate records by the members of the society. Annual report for the year 2020/2021 was then presented, clearly indicating the successful year concluded by IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter, specifically as a budding chapter, which was initiated in 2020. Next, the chapter advisor, Dr. Peshala Jayasekara delivered an inspiring speech explaining how the IES Student Branch Chapter has progressed through the past year, while benefiting the members as well as the community, and bridging the gap between the undergraduates and the industry. The outgoing president of IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa, Mr. Oshada Jayasinghe acted as the election chair and carried out the election to appoint the executive committee members for the year 2021/2022. Then, the newly appointed chairman, Mr. Deepana Ishtaweera explained the objectives of the society for the upcoming term, describing the planned events briefly. The event was concluded after the vote of thanks by the newly appointed secretary, Ms. Sachini Wickramasinghe.
