The Annual General Meeting of the IEEE IAS Sri Lanka Chapter was held on the 18th of September, 2020 at 05:30 PM in conference Room at Creative Software, No 29, Deal Place, Colombo 03. Minutes of AGM Beginning of the AGM The Master of Ceremonies of the event, Ms. Madara Polgampola, announced the commencement of the Annual General Meeting of IEEE Industry Application Society(IAS) Sri Lanka Chapter. National Anthem The AGM began with playing the national anthem Welcome Address and Activity Report, Chair - IAS Sri Lanka Chapter The Chairman, Mr. Lakshitha Gunasekara, the Secretary Ms. Rumesha Pathirana, the Treasurer, Ms. Dinuka Jayaweera and the Vice-chair, Mr. Sominda Gamage were invited to the head table by the Master of the Ceremonies, Ms. Madara Polgampola and the session was handed over to the chairman. Chairman, Mr. Lakshitha Gunasekara, formerly welcomed all the participants and presented the activity report for the year 2019/20. In his report, he presented the current statistics of the IAS Sri Lanka Chapter in the aspects of student branches and memberships. Then he gave an overview of the activities of the previous year. Further, he highlighted the potential future steps for IEEE IAS Sri Lanka Chapter in the aspects of membership, student branch formation, student participation in IAS international competitions, and distinguish lecture programs. Minutes of Inaugural AGM by Secretary Secretary, Ms. Rumesha Pathirana presented the minutes of the Inaugural AGM of the IAS Sri Lanka Chapter. No matters were raised for the presented minutes of the Inaugural AGM. Mr. Anjana Wijesekara proposed that the minutes are in order and Mr. Pamitha Kaluarachchi seconded it. Financial Report by the Treasurer Treasurer, Ms. Dinuka Jayaweera presented the financial report for the year 2019/20. Mr Lakshitha pointed out that the numbers were read incorrectly but no objections were raised to the financial report. Mr. Dilan Munasinghe proposed that the finance report has no errors and Ms. Thilini Wasundara seconded it. Guest Speech on Staying Future Proof A guest speech was delivered by Mr. Prabha Kularathna, Manager Software Engineering at Creative Software. He spoke about the importance of mastering the concepts rather than focusing to learn a technology. He highlighted that having the right passion, innovation and creativity will lead to being future-proof. Electing the Office Bearers The next item on the agenda was electing the new office bearers. Mr. Lakshitha Gunasekara informed that according to the Constitution Article IV Section I, Secretary, Chairman, Treasurer, Vice Chair, Industry Coordinator, Publicity Coordinator, Students Activity Coordinator and Past Chairman should be appointed as office bearers in administrative point. Prior to the AGM, an open call for nominations was made for the positions of the Secretary, Chairman, Treasurer, and Vice Chairman and following office bearers were appointed as per the received nominations. For the position of the Secretary, Ms. Dinuka Jayaweera was the only valid nomination which had been self-nominated. But due to Personal matters Ms Dinuka withdrew her nomination. Ms Madara Polgampola was nominated as the new Secretary by Ms Thilini Wasundara and Mr Sominda Gamage second it. Since there were no objections from the nominated secretary, Mr. Lakshitha Gunasekara announced Ms. Madara Polgampola as the Secretary. For the Chairman position, Mr. Dilan Munasinghe had been self-nominated and since there were no objections from the nominated chairman and no other nominations Mr. Lakshitha Gunasekara announced Mr. Dilan Munasinghe as the Chairman. Mr. Nadarajah Dheynoshan had been self-nominated for the Treasurer position. Mr. Nadarajah Dheynoshan had informed Mr. Lakshitha Gunasekara via email that he is withdrawing the nomination. hence as the only remaining nomination, Mr. Dilan Munasinghe proposed Ms. Thilini Wasundara as the Treasurer and since there were no objections from the nominated Treasurer and no other nominations Mr. Lakshitha Gunasekara announced Ms. Thilini Wasundara as the Treasurer. Mr. Dev Sugandhika had been self-nominated as the Vice-Chair and since there were no objections from the nominated Vice-Chair and no other nominations Mr. Lakshitha Gunasekara announced Mr.Dev Sugandhika as the Vice-Chair. Ending the office bearers election, Mr. Lakshitha Gunasekara announced that he will be in the executive committee as the Past Chairman. Then, the Past Chairman, Mr. Lakshitha Gunasekara invited the new Chairman, Mr.Dilan Munasinghe, Secretary, Ms. Dinuka Jayaweera , Treasurer, Ms. Thilini Wasundara, Vice Chair, Mr. Dev Sugandhika to the head table and handed over the proceedings to the newly appointed committee. Incoming Chairman’s Address The newly appointed Chairman, Mr. Dilan Munasinghe continued the proceedings as per the agenda delivering his speech. Without taking much time he thanked everyone for appointing him as the Chairman and appointing a great committee. He stated that he would like to continue the good work carried out by the past executive committee. He concluded his speech by inviting everyone to participate in upcoming events by IAS Sri Lanka Chapter. Any Other Matters The next item was to discuss any further comments or questions and no matter or comments were raised. Vote of Thanks The newly appointed secretary Ms. Dinuka Jayaweera delivered the vote of thanks. She thanked the past executive committee for the activities done in 2019/20 and concluded by congratulating the newly appointed committee. Fellowship Forum Ms. Madara Polgampola invited participants for the fellowship. The AGM was adjourned at 7.15 PM by the Chairman.
