IEEE Open Day 2021, the Awareness Session, and the Annual Induction Program of the University of Moratuwa organized by the IEEE Student Branch University of Moratuwa was held successfully on the 9th of October 2021 with over 150 participants. A globally-renowned and popular television series, 'Money Heist' was taken as the theme for the evening to attract newbies. Mr. Chamika Sudusinghe, Secretary at IEEE Region 10 Student Activities Committee and a proud undergraduate of the University of Moratuwa enlightened the newbie audience with his interactive session on volunteering in IEEE. Ms. Awishka Thuduwage, Awards and Recognitions Sub-Committee Chair of Student Activities Committee of IEEE Sri Lanka Section and also a proud undergraduate of the University of Moratuwa shared her journey in IEEE which surely inspired the young minds in the audience to start volunteering in IEEE. The evening grew to be more interesting with an enthralling Escape Room Challenge aligned with our theme, where the newbies were given the chance to work in groups and break the ice between them. The audience seemed to be amused with the challenge they met and the winners were gifted with amazing prizes. The event came to an end with the fascinating performance by The Voice Sri Lanka Contestants, Tiney and Nawanjana, and the gathering too joined with their performance. The vote of thanks was delivered by the project co-chair Mr. Avishka Jayakody ending yet another beautiful evening. A follow-up program to the IEEE Open Day, Learn and Lead is organized for the newbies with the intention of creating a pool of skilled volunteers to lead the coming up events. This will be a great opportunity to brush up on their soft skills too. Sessions related to Graphic Designing, Video Editing, Compering, and Creative Writing will be conducted by specialists.
