Robotricks 21/22 - Phase 2 - Webinar 2-Estimator Design

August 30, 2021 · 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM @ Online event

Description

This session was the second day of Robotricks phase 2 and was regarding ‘Estimator Design’. This webinar series was organized by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, the student chapter of University of Peradeniya on the 30 th of August 2021 from 6.00 p.m. onwards via zoom platform. The webinar was conducted by a proud graduate from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya and a PhD holder from University of Technology in Sydney, who has also practised and gained good knowledge in various fields such as robotics, control systems, computer vision and artificial intelligence and PLC programming. The webinar was opened for all the undergraduates interested in Robotics and who plan to succeed in the Robotics Industry in the future. At the commencement of the event, an introduction of the keynote speaker, Dr. Maleen Jayasuriya, was delivered. Afterwards, Dr. Jayasuriya started the session from scratch by introducing the simplest of theories. Firstly, probability theory was explained at a more fundamental level and then gradually built the session for more advanced topics. As the session went along few highlighted areas were covered, and those are as follows. Probabilistic robotics Kalman filter Kalman filter algorithm Observation Model Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) Furthermore, the Update Step and the Production Step, the basic steps in following the Kalman Theory, were explained thoroughly. Towards the end of the session, an example containing 1D dynamics was demonstrated. The session was exciting as the speaker encouraged the audience to answer his questions and raise their questions while explaining. At the end of the main session of the guest speaker, the participants were able to lighten their minds from the Q/A session, where they were able to get answers to a lot of questions and clarified their doughts regarding how to carry out an Estimator Design. Finally, to remark the end of the first webinar of the webinar series , the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mr. Udula Ranasinghe, the secretary of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
