FESTx 2.0 - Knowledge Boost on IEEE WiE

FESTx 2.0 was IEEE WiE awareness session conducted on 18th September 2021 at 6.00 pm onwards via zoom platform as an online event for the second time by IEEE WiE Student Branch Affinity Group of University of Moratuwa. Participant count exceeded 80 and comprised of both male and female crowd. FESTx 2.0 was session organized to create awareness on Women in Engineering among the undergraduates of university of Moratuwa, mainly focusing on the freshers. FESTx 2.0 was mainly carried out with the intentions of promoting WiE and its functions, gathering a larger volunteer base and boosting morale of the current volunteers and members. The event was started with the warm welcome of WiE affinity group advisor, Prof. Dileeka Dias. Then, first guest speech was done by Dr. Rasara Samarasinghe who is the current chairperson of IEEE WiE Sri Lanka Setion. She shared her journey with WiE, what she achieved and how WiE helped her to build herself up to become a confident and able woman engineer. She shared her views on how WiE can upgrade a woman’s career in STEM, quoting her personal experiences. The participants were excited by giving a sneak peek from the past events conducted by IEEE WiE Affinity Group of University of Moratuwa, such as Robotics workshop, Raspberry Pi workshop, Blossoming Smiles, HackDown, FOCUS Career guidance session, .and Sip Abhises seminar series. The second guest speech was conducted by Ms. Nuwini Chamindi who is current vice chair of IEEE Young Professional Sri Lanka. She shared her journey with IEEE, what she achieved and how IEEE helped her to build herself up to become a confident and able woman engineer. Coming from a person with firsthand experience, her speech was really inspiring to all the participants. Next was the most awaited segment, Kahoot Session which brought all the participants into an enthusiastic world boosting their knowledge on IEEE WiE and technology .
