“ Navigating the Minefields ” webinar was organized by Women in Engineering Affinity Group, University of Ruhuna, with the aim of giving some understanding about the challenges which have to face in the industry as a new engineer and also what are the challenges ladies have to face in the industry than the men. This webinar was focused on all the undergraduates in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, especially focusing on girls. This webinar was successfully done on Saturday, 6th November 2021 at 6.30 PM through the zoom platform with the participation of over 50. The topic of the webinar was Navigating the Minefields. The guest speaker of the event was Ms. Rajanandhini Balachandran. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Moratuwa in 2004 and Master's in Financial Engineering from Columbia University in the City of New York. She is currently working as the Market Risk Manager XVA at Morgan Stanley. She is a seasoned executive with over 15 years of experience in Risk Management. She is an effective communicator well versed in strategic management discussion and detailed technical discussions. It was a great opportunity for the participants as many key messages were disseminated in the webinar and the audience was made fully aware of the difficulties which female engineers are facing in the industry and how to face them. Very useful information was given in the webinar and many questions were discussed. The speaker emphasized that, How to make our career path in the future as a female engineers in the industry. How to achieve career goals as a woman Engineer. How we can improve our career and what are things that we want to improve within ourselves. What are the challenges for women engineers in the industry and how to overcome them? The webinar was a great session and the speaker shared a lot of experiences that she has got from the industry within Sri Lanka as well as the foreign countries. Many participants were very interactive and discussed many questions with the speaker. It provided the way of facing and succeeding challenges in the industry from a successful woman expert with giving inspiration for future women engineers. In conclusion, it was a good opportunity for all the participants.
