VIVA session regarding InspiHER{CircuitriX}, first round of InspiHER {TECH} v1.0

September 25, 2021 at 12:30 PM - September 26, 2021 at 12:30 PM @ Online event

Description

The InspiHER{Tech} V1.0 hopefully inspired 204 female undergraduates representing 21 universities as 68 teams of 3 members each in Sri Lanka by stimulating them to adapt to the high-speed development in the science & technology field by encouraging them to strive forward towards their success & professional growth with a competition of 3 stages which will be very supportive for them to showcase their talents to the whole community . This will boost the self-esteem as well as employment expectations of female undergraduates in Sri Lanka. The whole competition is conducted virtually with 3 rounds namely: Round 01 - InspiHER{CircuitriX}: A Circuit Designing project competition. Round 2 - InspiHER{MindFest}: A Technical Quiz . Round 3 - InspiHER{CodeWars}: A Coding Competition Exposing and stimulating female undergraduates to adapt to the high-speed development in the science and technology field is a necessity nowadays. InspiHER{Tech} V1.0, was organized with that aspiration to inspire female undergraduates to strive toward success in their STEM career paths. InspiHER{Tech} V1.0 was organized in a manner such that 3 rounds that evaluate and inspire female undergraduates glancing over every path of the technology field such as electronics side with a circuit designing project competition as the 1st round, a technical quiz where the technical knowledge, IQ and general knowledge of female undergraduate are evaluated as the 2nd round and algorithmic coding skills of female undergraduates are evaluated with the 3rd round. Likewise, nothing but the most talented female undergraduates composed of multi-talents are raised and other female undergraduates are motivated to rise up by developing their skills, minimizing their weaknesses for a future community of multi-talented female professionals. Prior to the first round of the competition, a workshop was organized for our contestants as well as for all island-wide undergraduates despite gender to learn about Proteus simulation software which has become the trend in simulation. InspiHER{CircuitriX} was the first round of InspiHER{Tech} V1.0 .It was a Circuit Designing Competition that the contestants were given to design a circuit using Arduino and the proposal of their design was said to include Arduino Circuit diagram of the design, Arduino Code, hex file, Project proposal, and Simulation video. Designing Competition that was beneficial for all female undergraduates in seek of knowledge and especially for engineering undergraduates as it is also a part of their curriculum. The competitors were required to turn in their submissions completed within the given time period and they were provided with resources or project topics to stimulate their submissions. The Proteus Workshop held prior to this round was a boost up method for all the competitors as well. InspiHER{CircuitriX}was commenced on 12 th September 2021. The participants were given a 2-week time period, until 25 th September 2021, to complete the task. The submissions were evaluated by the phenomenal judge panel, namely namely Mr. Rangika Ranasinghe, Design Engineer at Zone 24x7, and Sachintha Balasooriya, Assistant Lecturer at Sri Lanka Technological Campus. Points for this round were allocated by judges based on their review of each submission. They were allocated that this round covers 35% percent of the total points of the whole competition. As for the evaluation of the submitted projects, they were evaluated under the criteria; Arduino code, circuit design, project proposal, simulation video, creativity of the design, applicability to the real-world scenarios. The teams who got with higher score in this round and not plagiarized were eligible for the Viva. Viva sessions were held on two days. It was conducted by our judges on 25 th of September and 26 th of September. The time slots were given where the contestants can choose the slots according to their availably and preference. The viva sessions were held on time without any distractions. Judges for this session were Mr.Rangika Ranasinghe and our very own organizing committee member Malaka Gunawardhana. Questions from Arduino Code, hex file and the idea about their Circuit design were asked in that session. The contestants were said to turn on their videos on mandatory and all the members of the relevant teams were encouraged to stay connected and actively participate in the viva session. It was a must that all the team members were involved in designing the project. Each member in the group had to have a clear idea of their whole project. The questions were not only asked for the leader of a team, it was asked for everyone in the team. Anybody in the team can answer enthusiastically. This was also a chance for the competitors to bring pride and glory to their respective universities. We believe this great and unique initiative has made huge impact on the ones who love to change and take part on the science and technological section as women in engineering .
