The Internet of Things (IoT) was chosen as the main focus of “InnovMind ” as it is currently one of the most trending topics worldwide. Living in an age where every industry is leaning towards digitalization, IoT is currently being considered as the bridge between the two worlds. “InnovMind” was held under four exhilarating phases, Introductory Webinar Four-Day Workshop Series Panel Discussion Ideathon The IEEE Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter of Sri Lanka Technological Campus is proud to mention the success of InnovMind. Owing to the modernized concept of InnovMind, the project was capable of obtaining over 2600 registrations which included over 500+ international registrations. One of the great achievements of InnovMind is that we have been able to bring together Young Innovators not only from across the country, but from more than 20 countries around the world on a single platform. Due to the interest and request of our valued participants, a panel discussion with our valued resource personalities was also organized to clear off all our participants doubts. We were capable obtaining numerous positive feedbacks from both local and international participants. The first workshop of the workshop series was held on the 19 th of September 2021 at 06.00pm (GMT +05.30) on Zoom Video Conferencing covering the topic “How do I chose the best hardware for my IoT project?”. The aim of the first workshop was to initiate the workshop series of InnovMind by providing the participants a detailed knowledge on the hardware components used in IoT projects and how to choose them. Choosing the hardware components to be used in an IoT project is an important procedure as it highly affects the performance and budget of the project. To successfully provide knowledge on this matter, Mr. Ushan Chaminda the Lead Explorer, and CEO at Gavesha Labs (Pvt) Ltd. was invited as the Guest Speaker for the event. The invitation was gracefully accepted. The registration form circulated across various social media platforms along with the promotional materials for InnovMind obtained registrations for both the Introductory webinar and the Four-Day Workshop series of InnovMind. A registration count of over 2,600 was obtained including over 500 international registrations. All the registrants of InnovMind were informed via email about the whole project. And also, to remind them about the Introductory Webinar, Countdown emails were sent out 3 days onwards and Google invitations were sent out few hours onwards prior to the event. A Google Invite including the meeting details, Zoom meeting link, Facebook Live link and YouTube link was sent to all participants. Moreover, 08 InnovMind WhatsApp groups were created and share the group links via email to the InnovMind registrants and invite them to join. All the WhatsApp groups were managed by the Coordination Team of InnovMind and there was a Special WhatsApp group created for the international registrants as well. The Organizing Committee logged on to the meeting at 05.00pm and was joined by the Guest Speaker afterwards to ensure the technical aspects of the meeting were in check. All participants joining to the Zoom meeting were limited to the Zoom waiting room until the event was underway. At 06.00pm the participants were accepted into the Zoom meeting by the Co-Hosts. The session was live streamed on Facebook and YouTube as well simultaneously with the Zoom session. The event started off showcasing all promotional videos pertaining to InnovMind followed by an advertisement of Zone 24x7 (Platinum Sponsor of InnovMind). Afterwards, the moderators Ms. Shantha Wijesinghe and Mr. Shakil Arifeen, provided a brief introduction and explained the functionality of the workshop. The participants were then welcomed by the Co-Chair of InnovMind Ms. Neranjana Rashmi. The session was then handed over to the Guest Speaker. Mr. Ushan Chaminda provided a well detailed explanation on various hardware components that could be used for IoT projects. Mr. Ushan Chaminda could deliver a successful session as he spoke not only of the hardware components but also the issues faced, and mistakes done by beginners in projects. Furthermore, an idea on the websites to purchase and what aspects to consider when purchasing hardware components online during the pandemic lockdown were also explained. Following the Guest Speaker’s session, a Q&A session took place in which a few questions brought forward by the participants via the Pigeonhole platform were answered. The Pigeonhole platform was chosen because questions which were of higher demand could be voted by the participants and brought upwards so that higher priority could be given to them. The organizing committee mentioned the answers for those questions which could not be answered during the live session, as a comment in the Pigeonhole platform, after discuss those with the Resource persons. The session attracted 1000+ participants: 750+ participants on Zoom, 300+ views on Facebook and YouTube live sessions. A specially designed plaque was provided to the Guest Speaker Mr. Ushan Chaminda as a Virtual Token of Appreciation. The session was concluded at 08.30pm. The session recorded over 1000 participants across all platforms and obtained feedback from 966 participants including 184 foreign participants. The webinar had a high rating by majority of the participants. Through the feedbacks obtained, it could be concluded that the webinar was an immense success and laid a strong foundation for the workshop webinars that were yet to come.
