InnovMind | Workshop Day - 02

September 25, 2021 · 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM @ Online event

Description

The Internet of Things (IoT) was chosen as the main focus of “InnovMind ” as it is currently one of the most trending topics worldwide. IoT (Internet of Things) is the concept of the collection and transfer of data over a wireless network which includes interrelated computing devices, digital and mechanical machines, and other objects. Living in an age where every industry is leaning towards digitalization, IoT is currently being considered as the bridge between the two worlds. “InnovMind” was held under four exhilarating phases, Introductory Webinar Four-Day Workshop Series Panel Discussion Ideathon The IEEE Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter of Sri Lanka Technological Campus is proud to mention the success of InnovMind. Owing to the modernized concept of InnovMind, the project was capable of obtaining over 2600 registrations which included over 500+ international registrations. One of the great achievements of InnovMind is that we have been able to bring together Young Innovators not only from across the country, but from more than 20 countries around the world on a single platform. Due to the interest and request of our valued participants, a panel discussion with our valued resource personalities was also organized to clear off all our participants doubts. We were capable obtaining numerous positive feedbacks from both local and international participants. The first workshop of the workshop series was held on the 19 th of September 2021, covering the topic “How do I chose the best hardware for my IoT project?”. The second day of the workshop series was held on the 25 th of September 2021 at 06.00pm (GMT +05.30) on Zoom Video Conferencing covering the topic “Engineering product design process | Prototyping”. The major publicity plan and the main public relations plan was to use social media to spread information about the workshop. All the registrants of InnovMind were informed via email about the workshop. And also, to remind them about the Workshop, Countdown emails were sent out 3 days onwards and Google invitations were sent out few hours onwards prior to the event. A Google Invitation including the meeting details, Zoom meeting link, Facebook and YouTube live link were sent to all participants. Moreover, 08 InnovMind WhatsApp groups were created and shared the group links via email to the InnovMind registrants and invite them to join. All the WhatsApp groups were managed by the Coordination Team of InnovMind and there was a Special WhatsApp group created for the international registrants as well. Flyers, were constantly uploaded and shared, and the distribution of a series of short videos was confirmed to be unique, novel and very effective throughout the project. The aim of the second workshop was to provide participants a detailed knowledge on the Engineering product design and prototyping used in IoT projects and how to choose them. And also, a detailed knowledge about certifications and having a legal authority for an invention, was provided for the participations. The workshop was conducted by two of the most veteran personas in the field, Mr. Ranjan Kulathunga, Senior Design Engineer at Zone24x7 and Mr. Niroshan Karunaratne, Senior Tech Lead - Embedded Systems at Zone24x7. The session was moderated by Shantha Wijesinghe and Kasun Kavishka. The session was live streamed on Facebook and YouTube as well simultaneously with the Zoom session. The moderators Shantha Wijesinghe and Kasun Kavishka, provided a brief introduction and explained the functionality of the workshop. The participants were then welcomed by the Co-Chair of InnovMind Manula Rajapakse. The session was then handed over to the first guest speaker, Mr. Niroshan Karunaratne. He provided a well detailed explanation on Engineering product development process including challenges of product development, product designing phases, product validation testing, product certifications, Industry compliance standards by showing a new Invention of Zone24x7 as an example. After Mr. Niroshan Karunaratne, the session was handed over to the second speaker Mr. Ranjan Kulathunga. He provided a well detailed explanation on, Hardware design consideration including Prototyping and conceptual designing, ECAD and MCAD integration, schematic design considerations, layout design considerations, production level consideration. And also, he provided a well explanation about social innovation and career guidance. During the session, Mr. Ranjan has shown the steps of prototyping a demo practically, using Blynk app, IFTTT, ESP32, ESP8266 and Google assistant. This practical session was really interesting and delighted the participants and helped to have a clear idea to do a small prototyping using IoT on their own. Following the Guest Speaker’s session, a Q&A session took place in which a few questions brought forward by the participants via the Pigeonhole platform were answered. The Pigeonhole platform was chosen because questions which were of higher demand could be voted by the participants and brought upwards so that higher priority could be given to them. The organizing committee mentioned the answers, for those questions which could not be answered during the live session, as a comment in the Pigeonhole platform. The session attracted 1000+ participants: 600+ participants on Zoom, 400+ views on Facebook and YouTube live sessions. Virtual Token of Appreciations were provided to the Guest Speakers, Mr. Ranjan Kulathunga and Mr. Niroshan Karunaratne. The session was concluded at 08.30pm. The session recorded over 1000 participants across all platforms and obtained feedback from 804 participants including 141 foreign participants. The webinar had a high rating by majority of the participants and it was a massive success. Through the feedbacks obtained, it could be concluded that the second workshop of InnovMind was an exhilarating and a remarkable session which encouraged participants to make new inventions using IoT.
