InnovMind | Workshop Day - 03

September 26, 2021 · 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM @ Online event

Description

The Internet of Things (IoT) was chosen as the main focus of “InnovMind ” as it is currently one of the most trending topics worldwide. IoT (Internet of Things) is the concept of the collection and transfer of data over a wireless network which includes interrelated computing devices, digital and mechanical machines, and other objects. Living in an age where every industry is leaning towards digitalization, IoT is currently being considered as the bridge between the two worlds. “InnovMind” was held under four exhilarating phases, Introductory Webinar Four-Day Workshop Series Panel Discussion Ideathon The IEEE Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter of Sri Lanka Technological Campus is proud to mention the success of InnovMind. Owing to the modernized concept of InnovMind, the project was capable of obtaining over 2600 registrations which included over 500+ international registrations. One of the great achievements of InnovMind is that we have been able to bring together Young Innovators not only from across the country, but from more than 20 countries around the world on a single platform. Due to the interest and request of our valued participants, a panel discussion with our valued resource personalities was also organized to clear off all our participants doubts. We were capable obtaining numerous positive feedbacks from both local and international participants. The first workshop of the workshop series was held on the 19 th of September 2021, covering the topic “How do I chose the best hardware for my IoT project?” and the second day of the workshop series was held on the 25 th of September 2021 covering the topic “Engineering product design process | Prototyping”. The third day of the webinar series was held on the 26 th of September 2021 under the topic “Software Architecture | IoT” . The major publicity plan and the main public relations plan was to use social media to spread information about the workshop. All the registrants of InnovMind were informed via email about the workshop. And also, to remind them about the Workshop, Countdown emails were sent out 3 days onwards and Google invitations were sent out few hours onwards prior to the event. A Google Invitation including the meeting details, Zoom meeting link, Facebook and YouTube live link were sent to all participants. Moreover, 08 InnovMind WhatsApp groups were created and shared the group links via email to the InnovMind registrants and invite them to join. All the WhatsApp groups were managed by the Coordination Team of InnovMind and there was a Special WhatsApp group created for the international registrants as well. Flyers, were constantly uploaded and shared, and the distribution of a series of short videos was confirmed to be unique, novel and very effective throughout the project. The aim of the third workshop was to provide participants a detailed knowledge on the software architecture on IoT. Mr. Isuru Samarasinghe humbly accepted our invitation to be the resource person for the evening. Mr. Samarasinghe is a Staff Engineer and Cloud Specialist (AWS) at Nagarro (Pvt) Ltd. This iconic personality shared his expertise with all the young innovators who joined the session. The session was live streamed on Facebook and YouTube as well simultaneously with the Zoom session. The moderators Shakil Arifeen and Esana Kandanaarachchi, provided a brief introduction and explained the functionality of the workshop. Then the participants were welcomed by the Co-Chair of InnovMind Manula Rajapakse. The session was then handed over to the first guest speaker. He provided a well detailed explanation on, Factors to Consider When Designing an IoT Device, Levels of Designing, IoT Protocols, Developing Dashboards Using an Open Source IoT Device & Visualization, Connecting Devices to The Cloud and Security. The session was really valuable and helped participants to get a clear idea about Software side of an IoT project. And also, it was really interesting and participants were delighted with the session. Following the Guest Speaker’s session, a Q&A session took place in which a few questions brought forward by the participants via the Pigeonhole platform were answered. The Pigeonhole platform was chosen because questions which were of higher demand could be voted by the participants and brought upwards so that higher priority could be given to them. The organizing committee mentioned the answers, for those questions which could not be answered during the live session, as a comment in the Pigeonhole platform. The session attracted 700+ participants: 500+ participants on Zoom, 200+ views on Facebook and YouTube live sessions. A Virtual Token of Appreciation was provided to the Guest Speaker Mr. Isuru Samarasinghe. The session was concluded at 07.30pm. The session recorded over 700 participants across all platforms and obtained feedback from 636 participants including 107 international participants. The webinar had a high rating by majority of the participants. Few of the feedback: “The speaker clearly explained the matters with the slide, i clearly understood. It's was totally superb. Thank you for these kind of valuable sessions. And it is more informative session.” ~ Jathushayini Vijayarasa, Sri Lanka “The more you attend this session the more you learn about Internet of things” ~ Diana Ornega, Philippine “First of all Thank you to the speaker for significantly sharing information about Internet of things it was very informative webinar. This will help me as an Industrial Engineering Student because in a field or Industry the technologies used are almost modernized.” ~ Ian Velasco, Philippine “Great Decision that you get at this situation for any engineering students” ~ S.D.S.R Ranasingha, Sri Lanka The event was a massive success. Through the feedbacks obtained, it could be concluded that the second workshop of InnovMind was an exhilarating and a remarkable session which encouraged participants to make new inventions using IoT.
