October 3, 2021 · 11:30 AM - 1:35 PM @ Online event
Description
The Internet of Things (IoT) was chosen as the main focus of “InnovMind ” as it is currently one of the most trending topics worldwide. IoT (Internet of Things) is the concept of the collection and transfer of data over a wireless network which includes interrelated computing devices, digital and mechanical machines, and other objects. Living in an age where every industry is leaning towards digitalization, IoT is currently being considered as the bridge between the two worlds. “InnovMind” was held under four exhilarating phases, Introductory Webinar Four-Day Workshop Series Panel Discussion Ideathon The IEEE Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter of Sri Lanka Technological Campus is proud to mention the success of InnovMind. Owing to the modernized concept of InnovMind, the project was capable of obtaining over 2600 registrations which included over 500+ international registrations. One of the great achievements of InnovMind is that we have been able to bring together Young Innovators not only from across the country, but from more than 20 countries around the world on a single platform. Due to the interest and request of our valued participants, a panel discussion with our valued resource personalities was also organized to clear off all our participants doubts. We were capable obtaining numerous positive feedbacks from both local and international participants. The first workshop of the workshop series was held on the 19 th of September 2021, covering the topic “How do I chose the best hardware for my IoT project?” and the second day of the workshop series was held on the 25 th of September 2021 covering the topic “Engineering product design process | Prototyping”. The third day of the webinar series was held on the 26 th of September 2021 under the topic “Software Architecture | IoT”. The fourth workshop of the series “InnovMind” was held on the 3rd of October 2021 at 05.00pm (GMT +05.30) on Zoom Video Conferencing covering the topic “Cloud IoT”. The major publicity plan and the main public relations plan was to use social media to spread information about the workshop. All the registrants of InnovMind were informed via email about the workshop. And also, to remind them about the Workshop, Countdown emails were sent out 3 days onwards and Google invitations were sent out few hours onwards prior to the event. A Google Invitation including the meeting details, Zoom meeting link, Facebook and YouTube live link were sent to all participants. Moreover, 08 InnovMind WhatsApp groups were created and shared the group links via email to the InnovMind registrants and invite them to join. All the WhatsApp groups were managed by the Coordination Team of InnovMind and there was a Special WhatsApp group created for the international registrants as well. Flyers, were constantly uploaded and shared, and the distribution of a series of short videos was confirmed to be unique, novel and very effective throughout the project. The aim of the fourth workshop was to provide participants a detailed knowledge on Cloud IoT. As we were searching for an individual with experience in the field of IoT to conduct the workshop, we could successfully contact, Mr. Shameera Prajapriya, Microsoft Most Valuable Professional in Azure, CEO of Impact IT Solutions (Pvt) Ltd as the guest speaker to conduct the webinar. The session was live streamed on Facebook and YouTube as well simultaneously with the Zoom session. The moderators Shantha Wijesinghe and Shakil Arifeen, provided a brief introduction and explained the functionality of the workshop. The participants were then welcomed by the Co-Chair of InnovMind Neranjana Rashmi. Then the session was handed over to the first guest speaker, Mr.Shameera Prajapriya. At the beginning of the webinar, a message was given to the participants through a motivational video encouraging the participants to do innovations. After that introduction to the webinar, under the topic of, “What is IoT?”, a detailed explanation on, IoT devices and cloud patterns, cloud-based IoT solutions, Azure IoT reference architecture, and Microsoft Azure IoT services were given. Then moved on to the topic of Raspberry PI by explaining and then highlighting the fact, why we need IoT with enterprise applications. The session was exhilarated with the use of the small demo on application communication, which all the participants were looking for. This demo is on an application about Azure IoT hub and Execute commands on device direct method and also the speaker explained the coding by creating an IoT hub. Following the Guest Speaker’s session, a Q&A session took place in which a few questions brought forward by the participants via the Pigeonhole platform were answered. The Pigeonhole platform was chosen because questions which were of higher demand could be voted by the participants and brought upwards so that higher priority could be given to them. The organizing committee mentioned the answers, for those questions which could not be answered during the live session, as a comment in the Pigeonhole platform. The session attracted 750+ participants: 550+ participants on Zoom, 200+ views on Facebook and YouTube live sessions. A Virtual Token of Appreciation was provided to the Guest Speakers, Mr. Shameera Prajapriya. The session was concluded at 07.05 pm. The session recorded over 713 participants across all platforms and obtained feedback from 804 participants including 162 international participants. The webinar had a high rating by majority of the participants. Few of the feedbacks: “ The speaker spread so much information's that can help us think more of our product ” ~ Jaymark R. Gepollo, Philippine “Got to know more tips about using cloud IoT platforms” ~ Fathima Minza Ifrath, Sri Lanka “Had a very interesting session and got a large amount of inputs which added great valuable points to our project.” ~ ARUN V, India The fourth day and the last day of Phase 2, the workshop series of InnovMind concluded benchmarking a euphoric success. Through the feedbacks obtained, it could be concluded that the second workshop of InnovMind was an exhilarating and a remarkable session which encouraged participants to make new inventions using IoT.
