October 10, 2021 · 11:30 AM - 12:55 PM @ Online event

Description

The Internet of Things (IoT) was chosen as the main focus of “InnovMind ” as it is currently one of the most trending topics worldwide. IoT (Internet of Things) is the concept of the collection and transfer of data over a wireless network which includes interrelated computing devices, digital and mechanical machines, and other objects. Living in an age where every industry is leaning towards digitalization, IoT is currently being considered as the bridge between the two worlds. “InnovMind” was held under four exhilarating phases, Introductory Webinar Four-Day Workshop Series Panel Discussion Ideathon The IEEE Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter of Sri Lanka Technological Campus is proud to mention the success of InnovMind. Owing to the modernized concept of InnovMind, the project was capable of obtaining over 2600 registrations which included over 500+ international registrations. One of the great achievements of InnovMind is that we have been able to bring together Young Innovators not only from across the country, but from more than 20 countries around the world on a single platform. The project commenced with the One-Day Introductory Webinar which took place on the 18 th of September marking the project initiation. The Four Day Webinar Series was the 2 nd phase of the project. It was held on the 19 th of September, 25 th of September, 26 th of September, and the 3 rd of October. Experts from the Field of the Internet of Things (IoT) were resource persons for the sessions. Due to the interest and request of our valued participants, a panel discussion with our valued resource personalities was also organized to clear off all our participants doubts. We were capable obtaining numerous positive feedbacks from both local and international participants. So that, as a follow-up phase, a Panel Discussion was organized for the convenience of the participants who were present with InnovMind. The panel discussion was held on the 10 th of October and was streamed live via YouTube and Facebook. The Panel Discussion was able to gather five experts in the field of IoT on one platform to discuss the problems of Young Innovators, during their IoT innovations. Five experts from throughout the project, Mr. Ranjan Kulathunga- Senior Design Engineer at Zone 24x7 Mr. Shameera Prajapriya- Founder | CEO of Impact IT Solutions (Pvt) Ltd Mr. Niroshan Karunarathna- Senior Tech Lead in Embedded Systems Development at Zone 24x7 Mr. Thilina Yapa Bandara- Consultant in Business Solutions at Zone 24x7 Mr. Ushan Chaminda- CEO | Lead Explorer of Gavesha Labs (Pvt) Ltd joined hands as panelists to conduct the panel discussion. The primary intent of holding a panel discussion was to create one platform for participants of Ideathon and young innovators, to answer their questions related when implementing IoT practically. The moderators Neranjana Rashmi and Manula Rajapakse, Co-chairmans of InnovMind initiated the proceedings by providing a description on InnovMind and welcomed everyone for the Panel Discussion. The Panel Discussion was divided into two sessions. The first session was about designing a Home Automation System. All panelists were involved during the explanation, and they expressed their opinion relating to their field of expertise. Briefing further, Mr. Bandara – Types of Home Automation Systems Mr. Chaminda- Common Hardware used in Home Automation Systems Mr. Kulathunga- PCB Design for Home Automation Systems and Security Systems Mr. Prajapriya- Software Technology Mr. Karunarathna- The Patent Process for an invention The second session was dedicated to answering the questions from the participants of the Ideathon. A form was shared with the participants of Ideathon to submit the questions they encountered during the process. Furthermore, highly prioritized questions obtained through the Pigeonhole platform were also answered and the rest was entertained later. The Pigeonhole platform was chosen because questions which were of higher demand could be voted by the participants and brought upwards so that higher priority could be given to them. The organizing committee mentioned the answers, for those questions which could not be answered during the live session, as a comment in the Pigeonhole platform. The participants shared their valuable feedback through the live comments section of Facebook and YouTube live. It was evident that the participants had vastly benefitted through the panel discussion based on how the participants had completed their project for the competition (Ideathon) since they have approached the objective with minimum errors. Through the feedbacks obtained, it could be concluded that the Panel Discussion of InnovMind was an exhilarating and a remarkable session which encouraged participants to make new inventions using IoT and also found the answers for their problems during their innovations.
