InnovMind | Ideathon

October 11, 2021 at 6:29 PM - October 16, 2021 at 6:29 PM @ Padukka, Sri Lanka Technological Campus

Description

The Internet of Things (IoT) was chosen as the main focus of “InnovMind ” as it is currently one of the most trending topics worldwide. IoT (Internet of Things) is the concept of the collection and transfer of data over a wireless network which includes interrelated computing devices, digital and mechanical machines, and other objects. Living in an age where every industry is leaning towards digitalization, IoT is currently being considered as the bridge between the two worlds. “InnovMind” was held under four exhilarating phases, Introductory Webinar Four-Day Workshop Series Ideathon Panel Discussion The IEEE Industry Applications Society (IEEE IAS) Student Branch Chapter of Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) launched the project "InnovMind" with the goal of developing a platform to showcase the abilities of young, inquisitive, and creative innovators from all over the world. The virtual competition "InnovMind-Ideathon" was the project's third phase, and it provided participants with the chance to demonstrate their innovation skills using the knowledge learned through the InnovMind workshop series. This was the first ever Ideathon launched by SLTC IEEE. InnovMind Ideathon was received 62 submissions from both local and international competitors. Including 9 International Innovative ideas. Since the Ideathon was opened for the submissions from both individuals and Teams which have maximum 03 members, we were able to take over 100 Young Innovators around the world on a same platform. An Ideathon is a short, intensive workshop-style experience in which individuals solve some of the world's most important issues. Participants work in groups to brainstorm and discuss possible solutions using design thinking and innovative learning approaches. InnovMind-Ideathon is the finest platform for all young innovators around the world to show off their new IoT-based innovations. Competitors around the world participated in our Ideathon platform as a person, pairs and groups. (The maximum number of members for each group was 3). Competitors had to choose one of the following fields and identify a specific problem in that field for which they can provide a creative IoT solution. Healthcare Agriculture Transport Education The competition's goal was to use IoT to discover a better solution to an issue that has been highlighted. Competitors were able to submit a project report with all of the vital information about the particular inventive solution. In addition, competitors created a short video (3 to 5 minutes) describing their innovation. If participants competed as a team, the entire video should be made up of short video clips of each team member. Apart from the main Ideathon session, the most popular innovative idea was conducted via Facebook based on a popularity vote for the project ideas. On 27 th of September 2021 the competition was published during the ongoing webinar sessions in order to provide the competitors an adequate time to prepare and to grab the best outcome from the workshop series in order to proceed with their projects smoothly. On 16 th October at 11.59 p.m. all the submissions were closed for the Ideathon. The winners were announced and the awards were distributed during the closing ceremony on 24 th of October 2021. Individuals from all over the world were allowed to participate in this open competition. The well experienced and skilled panel of judges who are leading personas in the field of IoT in the country, selected the Top 10 winners. The InnovMind Ideathon winners received cash awards as well as useful certificates. Each competitor received a valuable participation certificate. “Team Fix-It”, with members T.D. Sahan Viduranga , P. Vishva Oshada Dias Wijenayake and R.A. Irosha Erandi Ranaweera , won the championship from the University of Moratuwa. 1 st Runner Up was won by “Team Agro”, P.I. Morapitiya, A.M.P.D. Muthukuda and P.K. Ranasinghe from University of Peradeniya. As the 2 nd runner up, "Team DCD" from the University of Moratuwa, with members M.M. Charith Janaka, T.A.D.S. Tennakoon and H.A.D.G. Hettiarachchi. Few feedbacks about Ideathon: “ We would like to thank InnovMind for giving us this opportunity. We are looking forward for many events :) ” ~ Team Outliers, Anna University Regional Campus, Coimbatore, India “ This project would be a revolutionary change and thanks to InnovMind for this opportunity. ” ~ Team Hyper Techies, Anna University Regional Campus, Coimbatore, India “ In this pandemic situation, we are pleased to enter this competition because it helped to enhance our experience and knowledge. Thank you for this valuable opportunity. ” ~ Team Fix-iT, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka “It is a great opportunity for us to work with a team for this ideathon competition. We learnt so many technologies related to IoT from your workshop series. It is a great work of you to organize this kind competition and we are happy to be a part of that. Thank you.” ~ Team Phoenix, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka This Ideathon unbelievably made a huge impact on both local and international competitors to get along with IoT and the most of the project ideas were novel and intriguing. InnovMind Ideathon was thus able set another benchmark in the history of competitions organized by the IEEE of SLTC with a high number of competitors along with the submission of fascinating projects based on IoT.
