Grand Finale and Awards Ceremony of InspiHER{Tech} V1.0

October 15, 2021 at 12:30 PM - October 16, 2021 at 12:30 PM @ Online event

Description

The IEEE Women In Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of SLTC introduces InspiHER{Tech} V1.0 for all island-wide female undergraduates to provide a platform for the rising of exemplary women professionals. The InspiHER{Tech} V1.0 hopefully inspired 204 female undergraduates representing 21 universities as 68 teams of 3 members each in Sri Lanka by stimulating them to adapt to the high-speed development in the science & technology field by encouraging them to strive forward towards their success & professional growth with a competition of 3 stages which will be very supportive for them to showcase their talents to the whole community. The whole competition is conducted virtually with 3 rounds namely: Round 01 - InspiHER{CircuitriX}: A Circuit Designing project competition. Round 2 - InspiHER{MindFest}: A Technical Quiz. Round 3 - InspiHER{CodeWars}: A Coding Competition InspiHER{Tech} V1.0, was organized with that aspiration to inspire female undergraduates to strive toward success in their STEM career paths. InspiHER{Tech} V1.0 was organized in a manner such that 3 rounds that evaluate and inspire female undergraduates glancing over every path of the technology field such as electronics side with a circuit designing project competition as the 1st round, a technical quiz where the technical knowledge, IQ and general knowledge of female undergraduate are evaluated as the 2nd round and algorithmic coding skills of female undergraduates are evaluated with the 3rd round. Likewise, nothing but the most talented female undergraduates composed of multi-talents are raised and other female undergraduates are motivated to rise up by developing their skills, minimizing their weaknesses for a future community of multi-talented female professionals. Prior to the first round of the competition, a workshop was organized for our contestants as well as for all island-wide undergraduates despite gender to learn about Proteus simulation software which has become the trend in simulation. The first round of the competition, InspiHER{CircuitriX} was successfully concluded after a VIVA session to the highly scored teams. After all, a voting competition was organized for the contestants team-wise. All the teams were required to design a logo for themselves and participate in the voting contest. The winners were decided by the count of votes. InspiHER{MindFest}, the second round was a technical quiz competition and it was also successfully concluded. The algorithmic coding competition dedicated for female undergraduates, InspiHER{CodeWars} also was concluded successfully at a competitive edge. The grand finale and award ceremony of InspiHER{Tech} V1.0 was held on 17th October at 4.00pm via the Zoom platform. After warmly welcoming the partcipants, a welcome speech was given by the chairwoman of The IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of SLTC, Michelle Perera, and she also played her fantastic role as a student advisor of the InspiHER {Tech} V1.0 project. There was a complete overview summary of the InspiHER {Tech} V1.0 project, as well as a complete explanation of the purposes and process of the program, included in that speech. As special guests of the InspiHER Tech V1.0 Grand Final and award ceremony, Dr. Rasara Samarasinhe, Ms. Warunika Hippola, and Dr. Gayana Herath participated. Dr Rasara Samarasinhe is a senior lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Department of the University of Moratuwa. She is a phenomenal IEEE member and chair of the IEEE Wie Sri Lanka Section as well. Ms. Warunika Hippola is a research assistant at Sri Lanaka Technology Campus. Dr. Gayana Herath is a senior lecturer at Sri Lanka Technology Campus and also the Head of the People and Culture department. Firstly, Gayana Herath addressed the ceremony with an important and valuable speech to all girls to catch their weaknesses and how to undermine them. She talked on the topic how to build a personality in the industry and personal life. Then they offered a token of appreciation to Dr. Gayana Heraath for being a special quest for the grand finale of Inspiher{tech}V1.0. Next, the special guest, Ms. Warunika Hippola delivered her speech by explaining the importance of these kinds of competition platforms for girls. She thanked the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of SLTC for organizing such a program. Then they offered a token of appreciation to Ms. Warunika Hippola. Then moved on to a special entertainment item. That wonderful song was performed by the young and talented Maheshi Meegolla of Sri Lanka Technological Campus. The audience was entertained. Next, we invited our next chief guest to address the ceremony. She has a pesty degree in computing from RMI University in Australia. Also, she works at Moratuwa University as a senior lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Department. She is a phenomenal IEEE member as well. She is none other than Dr. Rasara Samarasinghe, the chair of the IEEE Wie Sri Lanka Section. She said that InspiHER is a very good project in its present stage for girls who are talented. She also gave us an idea that convinced all school girls who wanted to pursue careers in engineering and technology to do so, because projects like InspiHERwill help them achieve their goals. Then they offered a token of appreciation to Dr. Rasara Samarasinghe for being a special quest for the grande finale of inspiher{tech}V1.0. The 2nd runner up at Inspiher {Tech} V1.0. was announced by Dr. Surani Tissera as the team Alpha of the University of Moratuwa. They got 741 total points. And their team members are Sandani Jayawardana, Dinithi Silva, Hashini Mithunika. The team head addressed the audience. She described the workshop and the experience they gained in all three rounds and thanked the organizers for their kind response throughout the tournament. She explained that InspiHER {Tech} V1.0 is the best platform to show their hidden talents. Later, Mrs.Warunika Hippola, announced the 1st runner up as the team Divergent from the university Moratuwa. They got 768 total points. And their team members are Shilpa Perera, Nivinya Samarathunga and poojni yataththawala. The team leader of team Divergent, addressed the audience. She said that InspiHER{Tech} V1.0 was a wonderful journey. She also said that they learned circuit design from the beginning from our InspiHER {Tech} V1.0 workshop. She appreciated the organizing committee of InspiHER {Tech} V1.0 in the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of SLTC for friendly guidance. She would like to attend our upcoming programs of our campus and wished us all the best in future projects. The team Shadow from Moratuwa University has been named champion by Dr.Rasara Samarasinghe. They got 835 total points. And their team members are Chathuni Wijegunawardhane, Sasandi Hettiarachchi and Hiruni Wijewardhane. She said that InspiHER{Tech} V1.0 was a great experience for her team and all participants. She believed these kinds of competitions motivate female undergraduates for industrial work and their own lives, and they decrease negative opinions and attitudes. She also stated that they hope to see the next InspiHER{Tech} V2.0 in the SLTC IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group. Finally, the Chairman of the InspiHER, Achini Shashikala, was invited to deliver the vote of thanks. Also, she is a talented undergraduate at SLTC and the program committee head of the wie affinity group. What a wonderful ceremony came to an end as it was going on.
